There is a golden rule in #manlaw that you do not break when engaging your enemy in the 'Art of War' and that is don't talk about his momma or wifey.

In attempt to resuscitate his career gagging on the days when he use to rock shows with the general 50 Cent and the G-Unit army, The Game has been reduced to attempts to make 'songs cry' in imaginary beef inducing freestyles in front of crowds in Paris,France and Madrid,Spain while in Europe on his Lamborghini Tour. After "letting Jay-Z's old ass slide" for calling him out in a bar during a show in Vegas, The Game decides to up the ante with a few bars taking shots at "Gay-Z" and wife, Beyonce and a bevy of NBA and NFL teams.

"Half the people in the world are walking around blind pretending they can see"

That gem was spoken to me by a drunk who use to hang out by the bus stop I use to take to High School each morning. For a drunk he was very profound and I often wonder if he was really a drunk or was he sent there to drop knowledge into my brain.

In retrospect he was probably just a drunk, but I always latched on to a couple of his random quotes. This particular one I always try to use when analyzing sports. The point being is that even though your eyes are open that doesn't mean that you are seeing what is going on.

There is no perfect way to make predictions when it comes to sports (trust me I know better than most), but if you really pay attention and don't let the white noise distract you, you can see where upset will happen.

There were a couple of simple reasons why Shane Mosley pulled off a huge upset of Antonio Margarito.

1- Margarito turned in Tony Montana

Just a beautiful fight for Sugar Shane Mosley. What more can you say? I will have more to say, but right now it is 1:23am here in STL and I am fighting to get this video to you. Hopefully by tomorrow I will have the entire fight because it was a site to behold.

marmos.jpg

Fight is over. Two things. First I was right and secondly can you believe what you saw? Video of the fight coming soon.

There is an art to picking an upset and boxing is one of the easiest sports to spot one when it is coming. That is why I was able to pick the two biggest boxing upsets of 2008.

Antonio Margarito over Miguel Cotto
And

Manny Pacquiao over Oscar De La Hoya

Now I am about to pick the 1st major upset of 2009 (sorry Arizona fans you may or may not get a surprise next week with my Super Bowl pick) and it is so easy to see you should be taking your entire paycheck, your tax refund (don't front you do rapid refund), your baby momma tax refund check or whatever money you won on my 2-0 NFL Championship weekend picks and put it on:

SHANE MOSLEY BEATING ANTONIO MARGARITO

You are probably thinking to yourself:

"But BonaFide one Cotto beat Mosley and Magarito beat Cotto so this is an easy win for Margarito right?"

My friend that is why I am paid 25c an hour to run this site because sometimes you have to look beyond the obvious.

When predicting an upset you have to look at three key factors:

Our friend Mike Florio has been all over this Plaxico Burress story with the legal ramifications so I suggest you check out Profootballtalk.com for those details. Now I am not a lawyer but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night and I know that Plax is in some deep sh*t. We now have some more details of exactly happened Friday night here is an in detailed report from the

New York Post:

Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress caught a bullet in his leg while fumbling with a gun in the vestibule of a Manhattan nightclub early today, sources said.
The trouble-plagued NFL star blasted himself through his right thigh just after midnight near the VIP entrance to the LQ nightclub on Lexington Avenue and had to be hospitalized, sources said.

Burress, 31, was allegedly inside the hot spot with teammate Antonio Pierce when they were confronted by security guards looking for weapons, sources said.

The Super Bowl hero, who nabbed the game-winning catch in the Giants' monumental win over the Patriots in February, admitted to the guards that he was packing heat, sources said.

After moving to a secluded area with a guard, he allegedly took the gun out and started to unload the bullets while drinking a glass of wine.

But the sure-handed wideout began to bobble the firearm, accidentally firing a shot that ripped through his leg but missed the bone.

It was not clear what kind of pistol Burress shot himself with or where he got it. He has an expired license to carry a gun in Florida, which would not have allowed him to have one in New York.

The NYPD, along with local police, arrived at Burress' sprawling Totowa, NJ, home at around 4:30 p.m. today.

But wife Tiffany responded through the intercom that "we've been through a lot," and said "you can't talk to my husband."

She then told the officers she needed to get dressed and asked them to wait. After more than 30 minutes, the cops left. They returned shortly before 8 p.m. but there was no answer.

I spoke to the brother of a prominent player on the New York Giants and I asked him what was the reaction of team here was his response:

It appears he is going to be ok.

Are you kidding me? This is just sick.

Miguel Cotto tried to be Floyd Mayweather and what we learned is that Miguel Cotto isn't Floyd Mayweather. It is one thing to run, but it is another thing to run and get hit. Cotto figured out fairly quickly that he wasn't going to be able to stand in the middle of the ring and brawl with Antonio Margarito. So a boxer known for systematically destroying his opponent's will to fight did the unthinkable. He got on his bicycle and ran. At that point, I knew he was destined to lose.

Go outside and run 100 yards forward and then run 100 yards backwards and tell me which one puts more of a strain on your body. If you are someone like Floyd Mayweather who has been boxing going backwards his entire career, it is second nature. But it was going to be extremely difficult for someone like Cotto who has been going forward the majority of his career to try to switch up. You add to that getting hit in his body, jaw, arms, shoulders or wherever else the brick-handed Margarito could find, it added up to a long night.

One thing the biased HBO broadcast never brought up was that, while COMPUBOX records clean shots to the head and body, it has no way to know how many of those shots that miss but hit other parts of the body have an effect on a boxer. Cotto may have landed more "clean shots", but I don't care who you are, if you get hit with 130 shots a round, regardless if they are clean or not, that is going to take its toll.

cottomargarito.jpg

Margarito took Cotto's best shot and kept coming. From the middle of the first round to the time Cotto took a knee, Margarito just kept coming and kept throwing. It would have been hard for any boxer including Floyd Mayweather to be able to stand up to that kind of pressure over 11 rounds. Margarito wasn't the better "boxer", but he was the better "fighter". He didn't win because of one great punch (even though that uppercut was sick). He won because he took Cotto's heart and soul. To me, that made it a much greater victory than if it were just a spectacular one-shot knockout.

It is ironic, to me, that Cotto was defeated in the same way he had defeated all his other opponents. He had will, desire and heart taken from him. It was pretty classless for him to leave the ring, but when you've been embarrassed and, in essence, given up to the point where you didn't want to take the pounding anymore, I shouldn't have been surprised his final run was right out of the ring.

Margarito has been saying for years he was the most feared and ducked fighter in boxing. Today, though, he doesn't have to worry about being ducked because they all will have to come to him and I guarantee they aren't looking forward to it.

Unless you live in San Antonio, you are breathing a sigh of relief that Joey Crawford decided to exact his revenge on the Spurs for getting him suspended last year for the Tim Duncan laughing incident.

First let's make one thing clear it was a foul. No matter how you spin it, there is no question that Derek Fisher fouled Brent Barry (you can watch it here).

The problem lies in the age old question: why is a foul in the 1st quarter not a foul in the 4th quarter? Also why is a foul a foul if it is Manu taking that hit as opposed to Brent Barry?

The NBA is suffering from a perception problem in the fact that people think games are rigged. Are they rigged? Probably not, but is it fair to bring up that officials may have some bias against certain players and/or teams? It is most definitely is. The fact that there are different sets of rules in the 1st quarter and than the 4th quarter will always lead to speculation that something is going on behind the scenes.

It shouldn't matter if it is Brent Barry getting jumped on or Michael Jordan famously pushing off on Byron Russell, you have to be consistent. The fact that the refs all night were giving the Spurs calls on fouls with very less contact only underlies the problem with the system that is currently in place. Maybe "Racist" Stern likes it this way. You know the saying, bad publicity is better than no publicity and everyone today is talking about the game, but in my opinion for all the wrong reasons.

The Lakers outplayed the Spurs and if not for some boneheaded decisions by them down the stretch as well as some favorable calls that went the Spurs way (the goaltending that shouldn't have been and the non-shot clock reset that should have been reset), the game would not have come down to that last play. With that being said, though, regardless of what happened in the past, you still have to make the proper call. The proper call was Barry on the line for two shots to tie the game.

Just like majority of you, I am happy the call didn't get made because honestly who wants to see the Spurs in the Finals again. But in the end, you can just add this to the long list of reasons why the NBA's popularity is declining quicker than George Bush's popularity.

You would think you would have learned your lesson by now. When the Spurs were being pummeled by the Hornets in the first two games of that series, here are few things I heard:

"The Spurs are too old."

"The dynasty is over."

"Now we will see who is the real MVP Chris Paul or Kobe Bryant."

I could go one but you get the idea. I, being the voice of reason tried to explain to everyone that this is the Spurs we are talking about and they have more resurrections than Jason Voorhees. Even when it got to Game 7, I warned people to ignore the fact that the Spurs had been blown out in the previous three games in New Orleans because they were more than capable of pulling out a Game 7. Low and behold when the pressure was on, the Spurs didn't flinched and the Hornets did.

Now that everyone has seen the Lakers destroy the Spurs over the last six quarters guess what I am hearing?

"The Spurs are too old."

"The dynasty is over."

"When Kobe wins the NBA Finals, is he in the discussion with Jordan now?"

Just like before I would caution you that the coffin hasn't been nailed shut and don't be surprised if in a week or so we are looking at Game 7. Then, who do you think is going to flinch?

When your Bona Fide Sports Expert was a young lad growing up, he liked to impress people at family gatherings by doing a Michael Jackson "Beat It" impersonation. One time, during a Christmas gathering, in the middle of my MJ spin, I slipped, fell on my stomach and knocked the wind out of me. It felt as if I were dying. I couldn't breathe; I couldn't move; and I was basically paralyzed for seemed like hours, but, in reality, was only about thirty seconds.

So, I can imagine how a boxer feels when, after getting battered around for multiple rounds, he gets hit with the perfect body shot. Can you even imagine the unthinkable pain and agony that must feel like?

Last night, we saw two of the best welterweights on the world destroy their opponents with picture-perfect body punches. Miguel Cotto, who is known for his vicious body attack, just overwhelmed Alfonso Gomez who had no business being in the ring with Cotto. It was a glorified sparring match. Cotto delivered one of the prettiest uppercuts to the body you will ever see. That blow put Gomez down for the 2nd time in the fight. The rest was just academic with the medical staff finally ending the massacre in the 5th round.

cotto.jpg

More impressive to me, though, was the performance of Antonio Margarito who simply walked down, through and over Kermit Cintron, whom he had knocked out three years previously. There is nothing more dangerous than a boxer who can take his opponent's best shot and just keep coming. That is exactly what Margarito did to Cintron. When Margarito delivered a picture perfect left hook to the body, the shot was so devastating that Cintron was spitting up blood. Now that is a vicious body blow!

While Money Mayweather is out counting his WWE check, Cotto and Margarito are on a collision course that will be worth whatever the PPV price will be.

Can the Spurs Repeat?

|

tim.duncan.jpg

With the recent trade pickup of Kurt Thomas, the Spurs are definitely one of the three oldest teams in the league, if not the oldest. But, can the Spurs repeat as champions with this squad? I think they have a really good chance. They already won the championship last year without Thomas. Now they add Thomas, another big man with a significant defensive presence, to Bruce Bowen, one of the best defensive players in the league. Plus you know what Duncan, Ginobli, and a healthy, (whipped) Tony Parker can do. And let's not forget Big Shot Bob Horry, (you don't need to be young to make the 3 - think Sam Perkins or Bill Lambier). Of course with the West being as loaded with good teams as they are, the road for the Spurs will certainly be hell with gasoline drawers on, but there's still a chance they can tap into that championship thinking from last year. A lot of people are talking about the Lakers, (which is my favorite team) being the best in the West, but the jury is still out. If the Spurs get through the West battle tested, any team coming out of the East will be easy.
