WATCH THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE BCS CHAMPIONSHIP GAME ABOVE

Before I get to the breakdown of the game there is one thing that is bothering me and it simply has to be addressed. I understand that Tim Tebow is a great college player, but whoever voted for him over Percy Harvin for offensive player of the game should have their ass kicked by Brock Lesner. If Harvin doesn't play effectively the Gators lose it is as simple as that. I understand Tebow is "God's Quarterback", but show some intelligence when handing out awards.

Now with that off of my chest let me talk about the game a bit. Once again everything I mentioned in my "5 Reasons" video came true:

1- SEC supremacy

They are undefeated in BCS championship games.

2- Defense

Oklahoma came in scoring about 700 points a game and was held to 14. A 4th down stand, an end of the half interception and a game changing 4th quarter interception sealed the game.

3- Heisman Curse

Sam Bradford played ok, but similar to other Heisman winners he struggled when it matter the most.

4- Tim Tebow

Shook off horrible early decision making that lead to two interceptions to lead his team on big drives to win the game.

5- Percy Harvin

Best player on the field point blank period.

A couple of things are obvious.

The bogus BCS National Championship game is almost upon us so it is time for another "5 Reasons" series. Watch the video for an interesting take on why Florida will win the National Championship with a little help from Austin Powers. If you would like to read the written reasons as well as predictions for the other BCS bowls just keep reading.

Utah AG: BCS Conspiracy?

|

By now, we have all read, seen or heard the Utah Utes football team beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl and finished the season undefeated. What we may not have understood in all that is the Utes have now finished the season undefeated twice in the last five years, and were still shut out of the BCS Championship.

(BCS Trophy-Take a good last look (maybe)! )

Didn't take someone in the state long to finally call out the BCS...Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff.

More after the jump...

It doesn't matter to me who wins between Oklahoma vs. Florida in the fictional National Championship game because in reality we have no real national championship with Seven teams with just 1 defeat and 2 undefeated teams.

Let me show you the twisted logic of the BS system. What is the number reason that Florida is in the National Championship game? It is because they beat the number one team in the country on a neutral site. Now Texas did the exact same thing. They beat Oklahoma then the #1 team in the country on a neutral field.

They both have one loss. Florida at home against Ole Miss and Texas on the road at Texas Tech.

Now you tell me who more deserves to be in the Championship game?

The point I am trying to make is that this isn't a Perry Mason TV Movie. We shouldn't have to go through 1001 scenarios to explain why one team is better than another. Cases can be made for all of the teams involve and that is the problem.

I have no issue with Oklahoma and Florida playing for the fictional national championship, but that is all it is a "paper championship".

A true champion should be decided on the field not when they get their first lose (see Florida) or how many 60 points game they can put up to impress the voters (see Oklahoma). A true champion doesn't care about running through a gauntlet of teams to prove they are the best.

Here is what the BCS is telling every college team, player, coach and fan. It doesn't matter what happens on the field. All that matters is impressing the voters and manipulating the computers. So in that regard College Football is no different than a Presidential Election (ironically the President hates the system).

This isn't complicated people.

Texas beat Oklahoma's ass on a neutral field.
Texas & Oklahoma are both 11-1.

THERE IS NO POLL IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA OR CANADA THAT SHOULD HAVE OKLAHOMA RANKED HIGHER THAN TEXAS.

I figure if everyone keeps saying the same thing over and over including our incoming President eventually someone will listen. Once again the BCS is BS. Here is the situation this year.

Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, Alabama, Florida, USC and Penn Sate could all potentially end the season with one loss. Now of course only two can play for the National Championship.

Oklahoma lost to Texas, Texas lost to Texas Tech, Texas Tech lost to Oklahoma, Florida lost to Ole Miss, USC lost to Oregon State, Alabama could potentially lose to Florida and Penn State lost to Iowa.

Now you tell me who are the best two teams in the country?

bradford.jpg

These rankings are not based on off who I think can beat who, but the top 10 teams in the country strictly based of their play. Comments are welcomed.

1- Alabama Crimson Tide: They are still going to lose, but they are the only undefeated team in a major conference.
2- Florida Gators: Best team in the country.
3- Texas Longhorns: How can you Oklahoma over them when they beat them straight up?
4- Oklahoma Sooners: If they would have beat Texas Tech on the road I would have considered moving them past Texas.
5- USC Trojans- Still doesn't deserve to be in the BCS Championship game.

I was listening Tirco and Van Pelt the other day on ESPN radio. They are cool I have no complaints about them they are straight shooters. I am particularly fond of Scott Van Pelt's brand of humor. They were talking about ESPN getting the rights to the BCS and how that doesn't mean that employees of ESPN would stop being critical of the flawed system.

I had to laugh literally out loud at that. Considering this is the same network that sent out an internal memo stating not to talk about Brett Favre giving gameplan secrets to other teams because of their love affair with Favre.

I am not speaking for all ESPN employees, but trust me the rank and file will be instructed not to bash the BCS to death and if you don't think that is the case then you are just fooling yourself.

Obama's College Football Stimulus Plan

|

obama60minutes.jpg
A plan for the economy, a plan for healthcare, a plan for the middle class...it seems there isn't any sector of the American way of life that President-elect Barack Obama doesn't have some sort of plan for but college football? Hmmm... In an interview Sunday with Steve Kroft of 60 minutes, Obama touched on the economy, the girls, the prospect of a new puppy, his mother-in -law in the White House along with other dire areas of interest to the American public before capping off the interview with his stimulus plan for college football. College football you say? It seems the President Elect is continuing to lobby to conquer and reconstruct the weapons of mass destruction in college sports known as the BCS system. And with good reason. The system, as many fans and analysts of sports nation can arguably agree, could use more use more upgrading than Solange's wardrobe. With a bias point system ran like an ironclad fist by the media bent on selecting ratings worthy teams, is it any wonder that the undefeated and one loss teams of "lower" conferences don't have a chance in hell of making the BCS championship game each year?

While not foolproof, like his road map to revive the middle class, Obama may be on to something.

Steve Kroft
What can you do or plan to do about getting a college football playoff for the national championship?

Obama
"This is important...I think any sensible person would say if you have a bunch of teams that have played throughout the season --- many of them with one or two losses, and there's no clear, decisive winner... we should create a playoff system. Eight teams, three rounds to determine a national champion. It would add three extra weeks; you could trim back the regular season. I don't know of any serious fan of college football who has disagreed with me on this... so I'm gonna throw my weight around a little bit. I think it's the right thing to do."

The BCS response is not so surprisingly as political correct as McCain's concession speech, marking the BCS' reluctance to listen to reason. After all, what sponsor in their right mind would sanction a playoff game between Ball State and say Oregon for instance? Snore. BCS coordinator, John Swofford had this to say:

"First of all I want to congratulate newly elected President Obama and I am glad he has a passion for college football like so many other Americans. For now, our constituencies -- and I know he understands constituencies -- have settled on the current BCS system, which the majority believe is the best system yet to determine a national champion while also maintaining the college football regular season as the best and most meaningful in sports."

Looks like its back to the drawing board for Obama's transition team
