I promised myself I wasn't going to do this I said:

"Self, I will not allow you to write about Brett Favre. You have much bigger things to do. Don't waste your time. You are Robert Littal don't go there."

But one thing about this whole Brett Favre drama has been nagging me and no one is reporting it so I am just going to come out and say it:

If Wilt Chamberlain was considering a comeback to the NBA next season, that would be news. But because people don't generally come back from the dead to play basketball, we have to settle for the Brett Favre soap opera to lead off every SportsCenter. Why are we still talking about this?

I blame Brett Favre for it all, of course. I can't blame ESPN for following Favre around to high schools and doctor's offices, because that's what they do. They're just trying to sniff out a story that might be there, during a slow news period. Let's face it, the NBA players just aren't embarrassing themselves enough to sustain press interest.

It's Brett Favre's fault because all he has to do is stop throwing footballs with kids 30 years younger than he is. All he has to do is stop listening to offers from Mark Wilf, then Mark Clayton and Len Pasquarelli won't have anything to write about. It's not like they need this to keep their jobs. I hear Pasquarelli's on his way out, anyway.

It's also Brett Favre's fault because he already set the precendent by coming back last year after he "retired." Now, every time he tries to retire after this won't be taken seriously at all. Which means, whether he plays this season or not, we'll probably hear "rumblings" about a comeback all through the next two seasons.

That sums up how I am feeling right now. I just got the news (which has now been confirmed by ESPN) and I feel like Ricky Hatton after getting hit with that left hook by Manny Pacquiao.

Brett Favre is like Rasputin he just will not die.

So the "God" has decided to retire for the 2nd time. Normally this is where I do an overview of the player's career, but since we are talking about Brett Favre I think I will hold off on that for a few months. In the back of my mind I still think he wants to play for the Vikings, so who knows if this is all shrewd maneuvering on his part.

If we take him at his word Favre leaves as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. Not the greatest, but one of the best. Just like a lot of great players his time with the New York Jets will be forgotten by the time he goes into the Hall of Fame (for example I completely forgot recent Hall of Fame inductee Bruce Smith played his last years in Washington). Even his fiasco with the Packers will be forgotten because as time goes by we only want to remember the positive things and while I have harped on a lot of the negative things about Favre the fact is he was always fun to watch and you never knew what was going to happen when he was on the field.

Personally I liked players that are a flawed. No one is perfect (ask ARod) and we shouldn't expect them to be. Favre wasn't perfect, but he was damn entertaining and in the end that is what I will remember.

That is if he stays retired.

So Jets players are coming out of the shadows to blame "God" Favre for their failure to make the playoffs. Here are a couple of the quotes:

From Thomas Jones:

"We're a team and we win together ... but at the same time, you can't turn the ball over and expect to win," Jones said in an interview Tuesday with New York Hot 97 FM. Favre threw three interceptions in the Jets' season-ending 24-17 loss to Miami that clinched the AFC East for the Dolphins.

"If somebody is not playing well, they need to come out of the game," Jones told Hot 97 FM. "You're jeopardizing the whole team because you're having a bad day. To me, that's not fair to everybody else. You're not the only one on the team. So when you get to the wire and somebody is just giving the game up, I mean, it's just not [fair]."

From Kerry Rhodes:

"In this league, when you're the head coach or the quarterback and things don't go well, you're going to get a lot of the blame," safety Kerry Rhodes said earlier this week, adding that if Favre chooses to commit to the Jets for his 19th NFL season, he's got to be all in.

"If he's dedicated and he wants to come back and do this, and do it the right way ... and be here when we're here in training camp and the minicamps and working out with us ... then I'm fine with it," Rhodes said. "But don't come back if it's going to be half-hearted or he doesn't want to put the time in with us."

From an Unnamed Player:

A veteran Jets player, quoted anonymously by Newsday, described Favre as a "distant" teammate who, when at the Jets' practice facility, spent his down time away from teammates in an office specially designated for him.

"There was a lot of resentment in the room about him. He never socialized with us, never went to dinner with anyone," the player told Newsday.

First let me speak to the "unnamed player" you are a coward and a punk. If you are going to be a man and run to the media like a little girl at least have the dignity to use your name. There is nothing worse than an "unnamed player" bashing another teammate in the media that makes you a worse teammate than they are.

In the back of my mind I always knew it would end for "God" Favre like this. Here is the thing about Favre he is a top 10 Quarterback of all time. Where does he fall in that Top 10 that is for you to decide, but the fact of the matter is he is old. He has started 900 games in a row and has taken a ton of hits. Personally I think what he did with the Jets was amazing and beyond what I thought he was capable of doing. It was unrealistic to think Favre at his age, going to a new team and a new system could lead the Jets deep into the playoffs. Even before they beat the Titans you could see he was losing some steam on his arm. Similar to a pitcher who is use to throwing 99MPHs fastballs but all of a sudden loses three or four MPHs once a QB loses his fastball so to speak then you know it is time to move on.

Favre's arm was his gift and his curse. With an arm like Favre's he could get away with passes that other QBs couldn't, but in the end his arm betrayed him and with that the playoff hopes of the Jets. I honestly hope this is the last time we see Favre on a football field. He was a great player, but it is time. It was obvious to me anyway that he wasn't having a good time playing with the Jets. How could he? Brett Favre and NYC just don't mix. He is use to be treated like a legend not just another player. He is use to being the center of the universe in Green Bay, but in NY he is just another celebrity.

Here is the truth about "God" Favre and I have been telling people this for years that he is not the old country clean cut boy the media has portray him over the years. Do I believe he called up the Lions on his own to give them the Packers offensive philosophies absolutely. This is classic Favre someone who for a very long time has come to the conclusion that he was above criticisms and above being treated like just "one of the boys".

The reason he wanted to go the Vikings was more about sticking it to the Packers than actually winning a Super Bowl. The reason I have been telling you for years that the Packers organization wanted to get rid of him is simply he thinks he is bigger than the game. In layman terns he is a spoiled brat that thinks he has some sort of entitlement.

To answer that question, let me borrow a line from "Gone With The Wind".

"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."

ESPN among other outlets bludgeoned us to death for two months about "God" Favre and the fact of the matter. I was sick of it. Especially considering, I have been saying the same thing about Favre and the Packers Organization for three years (Google Brett Favre and BlackSportsOnline).

I am not going to talk about Favre running a lap in practice when we have people winning 8 gold medals and Lebron "pimp focus" on ass is going on. I am not going to talk about Favre in a meaningless preseason game as if it was the Super Bowl.

Favre is a great Quarterback and he will make the Jets better, but I'd rather talk about other things going on in the world of sports that the "God". When he starts winning games against the Patriots, then we can talk.

20 Years of Madden: Here Are My Top 5 Greatest Moments:

1- Bo Knows

In case you didn't know, your Bona Fide Sport is an only child. So growing up, video games were a big part of my life. Madden 92 was my obsession. I was dominating and consistently beating my best friend, Leslie Days, on a daily basis. He never beat me but one day he played the perfect game. Playing as the San Francisco 49ers, he led 38-35 with three seconds left in the game. With the Los Angeles Raiders, I mounted a furious drive down to the 6 yard line. With an opportunity to tie the game or go for the winning score on 4th down, I did what any pre-teen would do.

TOSS SWEEP TO BO JACKSON!!!!

At the 3 yard line, Bo took a leap of faith and with the entire 49ers defense crashing down on him Bo inched the ball across the goal line for the victory. Leslie has never defeated me to this day and refuses to count this victory as he states Bo was inches short of the goal line. I term this victory "the miracle leap." Simply put, 16 years later still my greatest game in Madden history.

2- The Dating Game

When "Ya Boy" was a sophomore at The Ohio State University, he met the girl of his dreams (well at the time she was), Ms. Kimberly Hurley. Talk about a perfect woman. She was smart, funny and, my goodness, she was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen on the OSU campus. After an initial meeting that went well, we decided to go out on a date. One problem though, "Ya Boy" was broke. I was stealing clickster pencils from the book store broke. Pops was out of town on a business trip so I couldn't borrow any funds. So I did what I did best: Hustle rich white boys playing Madden.

I stayed in Morrill Tower across the street from the Horseshoe for those familiar with the OSU campus. On a Thursday night with just $20 to my name, I went to gamble ($20 a game, winners stay, losers go to the back of the line). Starting at 10pm and going on to 4 in the morning, I won 6 games in a row. $140 richer, I showed my 1st love the time of her life on Friday night and had plenty left over to by my clicksters' pencils on Monday (I was a rapper and I needed those pencils).

Ironically, after being with her for 6 months or so, I relayed the story of my Madden exploits to her and how that funded our first date. She explained that the deal was already sealed when I carried her books from the bookstore to her dorm the first time we met and the date really meant nothing in terms of her deciding if she was going to get with me. How sweet!

The Brett Favre soap opera in Green Bay has mercifully come to an end. The legendary QB was dealt to the Jets for a draft pick. The pick will be higher the better the Jets perform next season.

With a revamped roster, particularly on the offensive and defensive lines, the Jets are feeling optimistic despite a 4-12 record last season. Adding Favre further signals that they are focused on winning now. A division title is likely out of reach with the Patriots still around, but they have a good shot of coming in second and possibly making the playoffs.

For the Packers, the Aaron Rodgers era is now unquestionably underway. Even after Mike McCarthy's declaration on Tuesday that Favre would not be with the team this season, players expressed sentiments that the Packers' QB job was Favre's by-right. This move puts an end to those ideas.

Green Bay was also able to keep Favre out of the NFC North, after rumours that both the Vikings and Bears were interested in his services. Tampa Bay was another rumoured destination, and the Packers will face them on September 28. They do not face the Jets this season, which makes this deal even more attractive than a marginally better offer from a team like the Bucs.

Throughout this saga, the Green Bay front office has gone with the mantra "out of sight, out of mind" when it comes to Brett Favre. The debate has raged in the media about whether this is an appropriate way to treat the Hall-of-Famer, and Favre does not appear to appreciate the approach. Either way, it was time to move on, and now both sides can get back to business.

Let me make one thing clear. I don't think Aaron Rodgers is going to be a good NFL quarterback and I think Brett Favre gives the Packers to the best chance to get to the Super Bowl. Now with that being said, if I was Rodgers I would punching the Packers Management in the mouth "Steve Smith" style for all the BS they are putting him through.

This is the equivalent of a woman who has told you for years that she loves you and she wants to be with you, but just didn't have the stomach to get rid of her long-time boyfriend. Finally, after going back and forth with the boyfriend, he finally decides that he wants to move and she is relived because she can finally start the life with you she has been promising you for years.

Of course months later, the ex-boyfriend has a "Change of Heart" ala the Game's girlfriend and wants to come back.

Your new woman whispers all these sweet nothings in your ear about no matter what the ex-boyfriend says, she is committed to you and will do her best to get rid of the Ex. So she tries to pass him off on one of her ugly friends (Jets or Bucs), but he wants the really pretty friend (Vikings). She tries to offer him a yearly one-stand for the next 10 years just so he will go away, and she even threatens to force him to watch you two play "bedgammon" while he sit on the sidelines.

In the end though, you knew just like she knew and he knew that they were destined to get back together, and you were going to get screwed. That my friends is the situation Aaron Rodgers is in. The bad part is he will be the one sitting on the sidelines while his girl is all "hugged" up with her ex. In the immortal words of Mike Tyson, I am sure Rodgers would love to "Fade to Bolivia" right about now.

I've stayed away from commenting on Brett Favre's request for reinstatment for a reason. Simply put, I really don't care if he stays or if he goes. BUT...I do have an opinion about it. lol

If I were a part of the Green Bay Packers organization, I'd let him comeback ala Michael Jordan, wearing the Four - Five (sing it like Jay Z) with another team. Brett held a press conference to announce his retirement. His wife was there, he cried, the fans were grief-stricken, ESPN ran coverage re: his career for an entire week. You get the picture. He said goodbye to the game that he loves when all those around him ADVISED him not to. They knew what Brett didn't: "He wasn't ready to give up football." But he did, so here we are.

Here are my Top Five Reasons, to let Brett Favre go:

1. He plays maverick football when the game is on the line. You can't question his heart, but I do question his decision-making ability. Check out how many INTs he's thrown. Yea, yea, he's fun to watch, but the smiles disappear when you lose. I had him as my QB on fantasy football....hmph!

2. Eventually the Packers and their fans have to move on, and that time has come.

3. What about Aaron Rodgers? If you bench him in favor of Favre this year, what happens when Brett decides to really leave the game? What does that say for loyalty and Aaron's confidence.

4. Brett was one game away from playing in the Super Bowl. The same team was intact for this upcoming season and still, he decided to retire. The taste of victory wasn't good enough?

5. Get what you can while you can. If he's that's valuable, let him sign with another team, and get as many draft picks as you can for Brett.

I think the top guns in Green Bay have decided to look ahead instead of looking back, and I don't blame them. So slay me. Let him go already!

Honestly, I could write a long drawn out article about the "God" Favre saga, but sometimes a "gif" is worth a thousand words.

You might be surprised but I don't blame Brett Favre for this drama of the Young and The Favreless. I blame Favre for bad interceptions and talking publicly about retiring every year for the past twenty, but not for asking for his unconditional release from the Packers and the reason is simple.

The Packers never wanted Favre and not just this year but for the past three years and didn't have the guts to tell him. All of this could have been avoided if the Packers organization wasn't so frightened of fan backlash and just did what they have been wanting to do for years.

Let's just cut to the chase Brett Favre doesn't want to play for the Green Bay Packers anymore. That is the truth if you don't like it or you can't figure that out you are just blinded in your Favre worship. The writing has been on the wall for the last couple of years. Last year was an anomaly because Brett has been dropping hints he is tired of dealing with the cheese heads and more specifically the Packers organization.

No more BS the Packers don't want Brett Favre anymore. They haven't wanted Favre for several years. If you don't believe that you probably believe ESPN gives Terrell Owens fair coverage. The Packers want to move on. They are tired of the Brett Favre will he won't he merry go around. The drafted Aaron Rogers for a reason and it wasn't to be the "Water Boy". They are tired of the "God" Favre treatment where a player is bigger than the team. Maybe more importantly they are tired Brett throwing key interceptions at in opportune times. He didn't retire because he wanted to he retired because he feels that the Packers organization doesn't appreciate him and has been trying to push him out the door for years.

So both parties need to stop playing around and just admit the truth. This is the NFL not the Young and the Restless.

According to ESPN, Brett Favre recently contacted the Packers to come out of retirement. Now I don't know about you but who didn't see this coming. Did you think that it would be this simple for Favre to go away quietly? No I did not think so. Once again Favre is doing his usual flip flop: "This might be my last year but..." You know as much as I did not care for Michael Jordan when he retired at least he waited a few years before he came back. Grandpa Favre took only four months which is actually longer than I gave him credit for and about three weeks before the Packers training camp begins. While the masses of the Frozen Tundra and sports writers galore are waiting with open arms to bathe Grandpa Favre in all his glory there is one person that should be outraged at even the possibility. That would be Aaron Rodgers who is finally getting his chance after being in the purgatory known as Brett Favre's backup. Aaron actually has put the time in with the chance he's given and it might possibly be taken away due to an old timer who clearly can't let go. Look Favre you had your turn and you did make the most of it now let Aaron lead the Pack. ( Although I wonder if anyone bothered to tell Favre about the Madden Curse? He is on the cover this year if he came back and suffered a horrible injury the Madden Curse will live on...)

I have come to the conclusion that Brett Favre is Jason Voorhees. I thought once he finally retired that he would fade to "Bolivia" with Mike Tyson. That doesn't appear to be the case. If he isn't on ESPN talking about coming back, he is on David Letterman making cryptic comments about a possible return. No wonder the Packers want to retire his jersey on week 1 before Favre changes his mind for the 15th time.

Just when I think the Favre hoopla was going to die down, it was announced that Favre would be the cover boy for Madden 09. He is retired. Why is he on the cover? Besides the fact that John Madden sleeps in his Madden Cruiser with Favre highlights on repeat 24/7 and it is his franchise, there is no reason every time I pop my copy of Madden into my Xbox 360 I have to look at Favre. Just die already (not literally). I can't take it anymore!

When word spread that Tupac died, the initial reactions were disbelief. Most Tupac fans (including me) had a belief that, even though he always lived on the edge, it just wasn't possible for him to die. Twelve years later you will find people who still can't believe he is gone. I can only assume that is how fans of Brett Favre feel now. Even though every year Brett threatened to retire, no one actually believed it. Now that it has happened, they are in a state of shock and they are mourning as if he truly had died.

Why he retired is an interesting topic, but not one I am going to tackle now, but I think it is important that someone puts Brett's career in perspective that doesn't have his lips attached to his ass..
