There are 30 teams in the NBA, but every year, there are only a number of teams that are considered playoff teams, and of those 16-18 playoff teams, there are only a few teams that are considered contenders. And in all honesty, it seems like that number is too small. I don't care how die-hard of a Detroit, Philadelphia, Chicago or Dallas fan you are...your team is not going to make the NBA Finals. If you're lucky, these teams might make a little bit of noise, but that's about it.

For teams in building mode like Charlotte, Oklahoma City, Memphis and Minnesota, they understand they aren't at that level yet, and only aspire to reach that level. Minnesota, you may remember was at that level for about a year and a half.

An avid watcher of the NBA for over a decade, I have seen amazing teams come and go, dynasties built and dismantled and through it all, all these teams go through a window... and typically, it's not very big. And with the season officially over, and playoffs starting this weekend...allow me to explain.

Before I get to the game my thoughts and prayers are with Willis McGahee and his family I hope he ok.

WATCH HIGHLIGHTS OF THE GAME HERE:

It was just too much to ask a rookie Quarterback to go on the road and win in Pittsburgh. Joe Flacco has not played well in the previous two games, but he didn't turn the ball over and he didn't get sack. When you have a defense like the Baltimore Ravens sometimes that is all you need to do. I think everyone knew for the Ravens to win Flacco would have to play out of his mind and it was obvious from the beginning that wasn't going to happen.

Even though he was playing horribly the Ravens defense did what they always do and kept them in the game. It was 16-14 when Flacco made the mistake that cost the Ravens the game his interception to Troy Polamalu. There will be better days for Flacco, but it wasn't his time.

Think back to April of 2008.

Everyone thought the mother of Arizona Cardinals' fullback Terrelle Smith was delusional. Here is a woman, wraught with breast cancer, with the cells spreading to her brain, fighting every day for life, and her son is playing on the only team that has not reached a conference championship game since the AFL-NFL merger. Yet, here she is, proclaiming she saw him playing at home in the NFC Championship game.

A quick note...congratulations to the Florida Gators for winning the 2009 BCS National Championship game, 24-14 over Oklahoma.

Fox's Chris Myers asked quarterback Tim Tebow, the offensive player of the game, if he would return for his senior season at Florida, and Tebow did not exactly say yes. Most players of his caliber will consider it, but not always jump to the NFL. Will he stay?

As some of you watch the National Championship game Thursday, whether you like Florida or Oklahoma, allow me to introduce you to two members of the Gators, Maurkice and Mike Pouncey.

The game will mean a lot to them, but nowhere near as much as it will mean to their father, Rob Webster.

Utah AG: BCS Conspiracy?

|

By now, we have all read, seen or heard the Utah Utes football team beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl and finished the season undefeated. What we may not have understood in all that is the Utes have now finished the season undefeated twice in the last five years, and were still shut out of the BCS Championship.

Didn't take someone in the state long to finally call out the BCS...Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff.
