I met this girl back when I was in my early 20's I can't remember her name, but that is irrelevant to the story. I was home for the summer from The Ohio State University and like any young guy I was looking to hook up with as many young ladies as I could. I was trying to get over a break up so you could say my "Pimp Focus" at the time wasn't strong.
I met this girl at the zoo of all places and trust me when I tell you this she was doing me a favor by talking to me. This was definitely an upgrade. Face was beautiful, body was outstanding, she was smart, she was funny and just overall a very cool person.
I was an underdog in the relationship. I had the talent to be a #2 seed, but multiple factors had dropped me down to a #7 seed. She was a strong #2 seed, but I convinced myself I could pull the upset.
It's a little hard to watch...ok, it's extremely difficult to watch, but I guess he's got to do something in the off-season to keep busy, yeah? It's not really the Hills, though he says it is, just CB4 trying to entertain...I don't think he does a very good job.
Anybody want to go go-karting with Calderon?

In regards to Rihanna and Drew, a source told X17: "They looked very couple-y, sitting real close to each other in the car."
No word on any of this yet, but maybe we'll be seeing Rihanna courtside at a Laker game soon? I can see it now... Pick and roll with Chris Brown and Andrew Bynum all while Rihanna is cheering, jumping up and down. Oh wait...that's Shannon Brown.

Chris Webber was born in Detroit, Michigan. Very nice guy, very smart guy and he come across well on television. But sometimes when you come from the hood every once awhile no matter how much money you have and how refine you have become the hood comes out.
This would be one of those times. C Webb is not a fan of the Orlando Magic or I should say he is not a fan of how the Orlando Magic ignores big man Dwight Howard from time to time. The Magic blew home court advantage today to the 76ers mainly because they started jacking up threes and missing a lot of them.
Meanwhile Howard had 31 points but did not see the ball a lot down the stretch. Chris had pointed out at half time why that is a problem. While Kenny and Charles tried to be a diplomatic about it Chris let everyone especially Kenny Smith know how he felt about the situation.
His face at the 1:53 mark will forever be known as:

The Twitter comments on this are classic: http://www.twitter.com/BlkSportsOnline

Since breaking the story a few days ago on Chris Bosh's child support woes and custody drama (See Chris Bosh Deadbeat Dilemna I've received much flack for quote on quote "siding" with Bosh's ex-girlfriend based on what I presume to be my reporting on the facts as filed by Mathis (Bosh's ex-girlfriend) in a Maryland court.
"In her (Allison Mathis) suit she claims Bosh went from being a lovable fiancée with plans of matrimony and fatherhood to a cruel, indifferent "deadbeat" father and socially irresponsible athlete who upon his return from Olympic gold in Beijing broke off the relationship, leaving his child's mother 7 months pregnant without financial support even after suffering from complications that forced an emergency C-section this past November."
"All that said, how can a family oriented man with a charity for children dedicated to teaching children how to read potentially expose his 4 month old daughter to a life of borderline poverty where her mother is working two jobs, "robbing Peter to pay Paul" to keep food on the table and the utilities on because of a soured relationship with her mother? Apparently with the same ease to attempt to have Mathis removed from the $1.6 million dollar Texas home they jointly owned and to petition a paternity test. Yes, Bosh with a 99.97% accuracy, you ARE the father and yes, there are two sides to every story."
It is warranted given that men tend to side with men so of course it is assumed that because I'm a female writer, my sympathies lie solely with the child's mother and my intentions are to throw Chris Bosh's dignity and reputation to the wolves. It is this assumption that is the basis for making my unbiased stance on this story crystal clear.

Funny thought though, the school is hosting it's promoting White Ribbon Campaign this week, a program devoted to raising awareness about violence and abuse towards women.
Breezy, come on now!
On the other hand, TMZ breaks it down with a video clip, showing how lazy CB is on the hardwood.

With all the talk this past week about deadbeat dads in sports, I wanted to point out an individual that was - and could be according to some - a terrible deadbeat father, but has slowly began reaching out and making amends. Whether you may think lesser of him due to his twenty-seven years of ceasing to exist in his daughter's life...is a different story. But sometimes, the road to redemption is full of obstacles, excusable or not.
Yes, that man, is the basketball legend we have come to know as Dr. J, Julius Erving.

Ask anyone about a deadbeat dad and you will get a mixture of responses. Some, tinged with the hurt, bitterness and resentment of a mother, daughter or son left forlorn and abandoned from a immature and heartless "man" concerned more about his own self-interests than raising his child while others share a story of an upstanding man attempting a life of shared custody only to be bombarded with accusations of being a deadbeat simply because he has no desire to be in a romantic relationship with his child's mother. Both scenarios are all too common and although the single parent household epidemic knows no color boundaries, it has hit no racial group harder than the Black family.
These days, the two parent household is a rarity. With a 50% divorce rate, there's a 1 in 2 chance that a romantic relationship ending in marriage will not eventually wind up in divorce court. Studies have concluded that children that are a by-product of a fatherless home often fare worse in life than those in a two parent home and are subject to greater bouts of depression, violent behavior, emotional stress and earlier experimentation with drugs, alcohol and sex due to poverty (Ketteringham: Associated Content 2007)

So when Litall text me about Chris Bosh, affectionately nicknamed CB4 Chris Bosh, face of the Toronto Raptors' Chris Bosh, being sued by his former live-in girlfriend, 28 year old Allison Mathis, for child support, I was initially confused.

Also traded earlier, the Boston Celtics sent little-used Sam Cassell to the Sacramento Kings for a future second round draft pick in 2015. Cassell who hasn't played a game with the Celtics this year, has taken the role of player-coach to mentor the younger Rajon Rondo and Gabe Pruitt. It is unknown whether or not the Kings will keep him or waive him.
In Phoenix, sources are also saying that with Alvin Gentry taking control of the Phoenix Suns, the run-and-gun Suns will be put into effect, thus making Stoudemire valuable to the Suns. It is likely that the Suns will no longer trade him before the deadline.
There's also a lot of talk about a Vince Carter/Tracy McGrady reuniting in Houston...could it be too late?
The NBA trading deadline is this Thursday.
So besides getting his "Mc Hammer" on in pregame introductions Shaq also had the play of the 2009 NBA All Star game with this beautiful "Give & Go" with Chris Paul where he passes the ball between an unsuspecting Dwight Howard's legs.

It features Rip Hamilton, Carmelo Anthony, Joe Johnson and Chris Paul.
Check it out. It's unreal. It also features Jordan's new sneakers, the Jordan 2009. See if you can spot it. For pics of the Jordan 2009, see an older post on my blog. This has got to be one of my favorite Jordan commercials in this series that doesn't feature Jordan himself.

In tonight's loss against the Lakers, Chris Bosh sprained his knee, an injury similar to Andrew Bynum last weekend. No word on the extremity of it, but this could put Bosh out the rest of the season. Results will come out tomorrow, but this might put him out of his 4th All-Star appearance, and pave room for another Eastern Conference forward? Or maybe both Ray Allen and Mo Williams?
Or does Vince Carter get the nod?
In other CB4 news, homeboy has been complaining about the lack of respect he feels he is getting as the fans in Toronto have begun to boo the Raptors in blowout losses. And there's a lot of talk going around saying that Bosh isn't happy with the situation in Toronto and might leave? Isn't that what always happens to stars in Toronto anyway? They are the go-to player in Canada, and then they leave for more money and another team... so that means Bosh is on his way to being another star that rarely gets out of the first round (a la T-Mac, Vinsanity)? Granted he's a free agent after next season, I don't think he is going anywhere.
I don't think the boos are going to stop either.
There are several people outside the Denver (or New Orleans) area that have probably never heard of the name Chris Andersen. If you haven't, you probably don't watch much basketball.
Andersen, also known as 'The Birdman (a self-imposed nickname),' is among the league leaders in blocks per game at 2.0 (currently ranks 4th), and does so in 18.8 minutes per game. Pretty amazing! Imagine what he would do in 36 minutes...

So, when Benjamin Hochman of the Denver Post asked about his defensive prowess, Birdman was neither too shy or...well, too bright...

Check out the video on Yahoo! where Kobe is talking about where he's getting his new moves from this season. CP3 knows what's up.
Just when you thought Cincinnati was safe from the police blotter, Chris Henry has returned to the Bengals according to ESPN. Of course he has a 4 game suspension that he has to serve in the beginning of the season so technically he won't be around till Week 5. Now this is the same franchise that said a few months ago when they cut him they couldn't tolerate his brushes with the law and they wanted guys of high character. Of course what they really meant was: "We can't have you here because it makes our franchise look bad but if we are really despearte we will call you". Well folks, they're desperate because Ocho Cinco got injured in a preseason game and it looks to be rather serious because with him out and TJ "Who's Yo Mama" nursing an ankle injury. Not to mention two WR's they drafted but haven't really done anything they decided to go with a deep threat that knows the system: enter Chris Henry.
Just when you thought he was gone from Cincy forever he makes a triumphant return a few months later. Just goes to show that winning is all that matters in the NFL. I mean say what you want about Jerry Jones he gets whoever gives his team the best chance to win, he could care less about your rap sheet, and he does this without all the "moralizing". It will be interesting to see what he does with another chance he has been given to prove himself.

Chris Byrd, heavyweight contender for almost a decade, will compete in the Light Heavyweight Division. His most respected attributes, defense and speed, would mix with some other characteristics, very good chin and heart, to bring him wins over many contenders of this era like David Tua, Evander Holyfield, Fres Oquendo, Jameel McCline, DaVaryll Williamson, among others. Some of those fights were boring, others were tight decisions, but nobody can argue that Byrd's resume is one of the best of this heavyweight era.
After his most recent loss, Byrd, who is now 37 years old, announced that he would go down to 175 and fight there. He claims he will be even faster, his defense will be better. But can he still be competitive against top level fighters at his age? The division is not as great as it once was, but it is still highly competitive.
He was already at the mountain top. He was heavyweight champ of the world or at least part-holder for a while. My question is, at age 37, why melt down to 175? Is his need to compete so great?
I wish him the best, but I have to wonder one thing. If Byrd succeeds at the Light Heavyweight Division, will he make the jump back up to the Heavyweight Division?

That gasp you just heard is from Darth Kobe fans all around the world whom I just shocked with my proclamation that Chris Paul not Bean is my 2007-08 NBA MVP. This is a decision that I have been struggling with for the past couple of months, so let me explain how I have come to this conclusion.
At the All-Star break it seem like a no brainer that the MVP would be going to Kobe Bryant who is still in my opinion the best pure player in the game. The knock that he isn't a "team player" and "doesn't make his teammates better" has always been the cliché that the media and people who dislike Kobe the personally would say when trying to minimize his tremendous talent.
They said the same thing about Michael Jordan until he got some talented players then he was the "ultimate competitor." Hence, I always found that critisms about Kobe comical. Magically, once he got some better teammates his team became one of the best teams in the West and a West that is stacked from top to bottom. Kobe of 2008 isn't that much different from Kobe of 2007 or 2006. What is different is that the players around him are allowing him to show that it is a lot easier to play a "team" game when you have teammates that you can trust.
The fact that he has kept his team together through a lot of injuries, not just to the team but also to himself. Does anyone remember that he is dealing with a broken pinky that the team wanted him to get surgery on. The reason you don't remember is because he has still been deadly efficient while keeping the Lakers right at the top of the Western Conference even after losing Andrew Bynum for the majority of the year and Pau Gasol for a couple of weeks.
Kobe Bryant should already have an MVP trophy, but circumstances and bias have prevented that from happening. If he is named NBA MVP you won't get any complaints from me. However, in the end I think CP3 was just a little bit better and I will tell you why.

Innocent until proven guilty? Right? I'm trying really really hard not to jump to conclusions in the latest legal entanglement of Bengals Wide Receiver Chris Henry. I'm supposed to be writing about Ocho right now. That is still coming, just a little bit later. However, I feel I must address the Henry situation first.
You should already know by now that Henry has been charged with punching an 18 year-old. as my good friend Reggie always says "Straight Up In His Eye." and busting a windshield of the victim's vehicle.
Henry says it is a case of mistaken identity which could be true, but it is hard to mistake the identity of an NFL player when getting punched in the face. If proven to be true, it's a wrap for Henry because his promising NFL career is over.
Did I also mention that Henry was a college teammate of Pacman "Make It Rain" Jones? Looks like Rich Rodriguez, the former coach at West Virginia, was running a tight ship down there. This is just another blow to the crumbling franchise known as the Cincinnati Bengals.

There are certain teams that stick out in your mind as teams that you will never ever forget and always relate to. For me, those teams are the Early 90's UNLV teams, 90's Cowboys, 90's Bulls, Shaq & Kobe Lakers.
However, none of them compare to the effect that the Michigan Fab 5 had on me. With the upcoming retirement of Chris Webber, it is like a death in the family. (I think Juwan Howard is still playing but stuck deep on somebody's bench.). They never won that National Championship, but their effect on basketball and many many young Black males like me is evident even today.
I don't think any of them reached their full potential in the pros, but for the two-years all five of them were together, it was definitely something special. I wish Chris Webber good luck with his post-NBA career.

Sometimes a picture is worth a 1000 words.
