R.I.P. Jim Johnson

Today while driving home from work, listening to sports talk radio (Keep up the good work Mike Missanelli), I heard breaking news that Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson passed away. He lost his fight with melanoma. A somber, and sad way for the birds to start their training camp. He will be missed.

First let me say this was the best game of the year.

WATCH HIGHLIGHTS OF THE GAME HERE:

I have stated many times that I believe Donovan McNabb chokes in big games. So let me first say in the interest of fairness this was not Donovan McNabb's fault. Down 24-6 he almost produced one of the greatest post season comebacks of all time. In the end though he had the opportunity to do a legendary thing and he came up short once again. The facts are the facts 1-4 in NFC Championships and 0-1 in Super Bowls. Without question he is one of the best Quarterbacks of the past ten years and he has a lot more years left, but the reality is that for whatever the reason he can't get over the hump.

I joked in my video about his taunting the Giants by picking up their telephone that the football gods would not look kindly on this. I was joking, but I do have a belief in karma and when you are a perennial choker you might not want to chance fate.

Honestly I don't know how to fully judge this Eagles team. They had no business even making the playoffs so in that regard they exceeded expectations, but in the end they lose as a favorite again. The only way I can describe it, is they are like a guy who scores the most beautiful woman in the club, but when it is time to perform lets just say they come up a little bit short.

Direct quote from Robert Littal after the Cardinals were destroyed by the New England Patriots:

"THEY DON'T DESERVE TO BE IN THE PLAYOFFS. THERE SPOT SHOULD BE REVOKED"

NFL Divisional Playoff Picks

It's the semi-final round of the 2008-2009 NFL Playoffs, so you know what that means. Yes, you guessed it, Peyton Manning and the Colts have bowed out after one game after being the best QB in the regular season and LT isn't healthy enough to play. But the QB Class of the 2004 Draft is starting to help us forget about Peyton and Brady. Eli, Ben and Philip are attempting to take over the league. Here are my picks, so get your ones out and ride with me this weekend, i'm good for it.

Ravens at Titans:
This will be the revenge of Kerry Collins. I understand that the Ravens have someone named Ed Reed looking like a young Willie Mays out in Center but with a healthy Haynesworths there will be nowhere for the Ravens to run, which puts the pressure squarely on Flacco. Both defenses will be up to the task but end the end Collins will make more plays on 3rd down than Flacco to pull out the win for the Titans. Titans 13 Ravens 6.

San Diego at Pittsburgh:
Philips Rivers vs. Big Ben. I get the feeling that this might be the AFC younger version of Peyton vs. Brady sometime down the road. San Diego was one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl this year, then they lost baby Lawrence Taylor and a great D became very average. Chargers had a nice win last week against really a ok Colts team. Chargers do matchup well against Pittsburgh but their season ends here. Heinz Feild is a tough play to play, the field is suited for defense and not offense which gives the Steelers a big advantage. The Steelers are basically the AFC's Giants without a run game. You have the be able to get to Ben to beat the Steelers because he will turn it over, but the Chargers can't do that. Harrison and the boys will cool off Sproules. Steelers 17 Chargers 10

Philadelphia Eagles

At 2-3 the Philadelphia Eagles find themselves 3 games back in this blood bath of a division. Since the NFL insist on keeping the current playoff format it looks like one of these teams won't make it to the dance. Even though were just 5 weeks in, the Eagles are in trouble. News came out today that Westbrook has cracked ribs and he makes this offense go. When he's healthy he actually covers up a lot of holes but when injured they get exposed. This team has no real fullback which is painfully obvious in their short yardage run game, which has been killing them these past couple weeks. They have a TE in LJ Smith who loses any interest in playing the position if he's not going out for a pattern. In any successful West-Coast O you need some solid TE play and he's stealing money.

It has to be annoying for Eagles fans to hear Donovan say that there's no way they should of lost to the Redskins because they are the better team. McNabb has been saying that for a year now, Trent Cole seems to think they are a great team. This is part of the problem. At some point you are what you are. It doesn't seem to resignate with them that almost every team that loses can say should of, could of, would of. They always should of won. I'm not saying they are a bad team by no means, but until you look in that mirror and be real it's hard to get to that level you think you should be at.

More than any time in recent memory the fans are questioning Andy Reid. The current trend is that the Eagles look like world beaters in the 1st half and the Detroit Lions in the 2nd half. There's plenty of time left with teams like the Niners on the schedule and some other cupcakes but adjustments need to be made now.
