The lord has spoken and decided to tell Kurt Warner that 2 years and 23 million (19 million guaranteed) was the right deal to take to keep him in Arizona.
I have nothing personal against Kurt Warner. I think he is a nice guy and I think he is a talented Quarterback, but this dog and pony show with the Lord, the Cardinals and his agent was simply ridiculous.
Simply put religion and contract negotiations don't mix and we found that out in the way this entire thing was handled. Warner was on record saying that the Lord will tell him what to do, so I can only assume that the Lord told Warner that playing for 2 years and 20 million weren't enough (the Cardinals initial offer).
1- Anquan Boldin will have more catches and yards than Larry Fitzgerald.
Believe it or not I have a few sources that have told me that secretly the Cardinals are loving all the attention that Fitzgerald is getting from the media and from the Steelers because they plan to feature Boldin more than Fitzgerald in the game. Boldin is fully healed from his hamstring injury and the Cardinals want to establish a physical presence against the Steelers and Boldin allows them to do that. Also they do not expect Kurt Warner to have the time in the pocket to hit Fitzgerald with a lot of slow developing plays, so look for a lot of screens and quick routes to Boldin.
Our good friends at Midwestsportsfans.com has a great article on what a Super Bowl victory will do for Kurt Warner's Hall of Fame chances so be sure to check it out.
First let me say this was the best game of the year.
WATCH HIGHLIGHTS OF THE GAME HERE:
I have stated many times that I believe Donovan McNabb chokes in big games. So let me first say in the interest of fairness this was not Donovan McNabb's fault. Down 24-6 he almost produced one of the greatest post season comebacks of all time. In the end though he had the opportunity to do a legendary thing and he came up short once again. The facts are the facts 1-4 in NFC Championships and 0-1 in Super Bowls. Without question he is one of the best Quarterbacks of the past ten years and he has a lot more years left, but the reality is that for whatever the reason he can't get over the hump.
I joked in my video about his taunting the Giants by picking up their telephone that the football gods would not look kindly on this. I was joking, but I do have a belief in karma and when you are a perennial choker you might not want to chance fate.
Honestly I don't know how to fully judge this Eagles team. They had no business even making the playoffs so in that regard they exceeded expectations, but in the end they lose as a favorite again. The only way I can describe it, is they are like a guy who scores the most beautiful woman in the club, but when it is time to perform lets just say they come up a little bit short.
Direct quote from Robert Littal after the Cardinals were destroyed by the New England Patriots:
"THEY DON'T DESERVE TO BE IN THE PLAYOFFS. THERE SPOT SHOULD BE REVOKED"
I forgot one of my fundamental rules when dealing with the NFL:
Five interceptions and one fumble. I have watched a lot of playoff football in my young life and I can not remember a Quarterback playing as bad as Delhomme. I remember "God" Favre throwing six interceptions against the Rams back in the day, but this seemed even worst than that.
The Carolina marched down the field easily on their first drive and I thought the game was over. Then Delhomme channeled his inner Quincy Carter. You know something that is an insult to Quincy Carter. If you have been watching the Panthers closely this year, you should have already known that Delhomme has been average at best, but no one expected this. I don't think Delhomme will be the Quarterback for the Panthers next year. How do you come back from this?
You want to hear something crazy? If the Eagles beat the Giants which is possible the Arizona Cardinals would host the NFC Championship Game. I think people who have told you that was more unlikely at the beginning of the year than us having a Black President.
As we already know I am right 99.9% of the time (just kidding), but the one thing that all the writers of BlackSportsOnline do is admit when they were wrong and seeing that the NFL season is coming down the stretch I think it is safe to talk about a few things I have been wrong about.
1- Matt Ryan
I was definitely way off with this one. I thought there was no way shape, form or fashion that Ryan of the 19 INTs in his senior season at Boston College would be a good quarterback in the NFL. Lets be honest I thought he was going to be garbage and I thought the Falcons had a solid chance of winning 2 or 3 games.
Having the NFL Sunday Ticket Package on the NFL (a must have for any true NFL Fan) I have watched every single one of Ryan's games and he is the real deal. I would venture to say he is better than 75% of the QBs in the NFL. He has shown skills that 4 or 5 year veterans have not shown. I was wrong about this kid.
2- Bill Parcells and The Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins went 1-15 last year, so I figured there would be some improvement, but nothing like this. I thought Bill Parcells was still living in 1988 not 2008 and his way of thinking would just plunge the Dolphins in a bigger hole.
But then the Dolphins got a real QB in Chad Pennington and then got creative. Out of all the teams I would have expected to come out with the "Wildcat" the Dolphins would have been way down on the list. But it is working and they are fighting for a Wildcard spot.
