Could this be the final Nike Puppet commercial? Some of us hope so. But only Nike knows how many they could continue to do. If only Shaq was signed by Nike...
Now, there's over 10 Puppet commercials...but this one, a celebrating Kobe and a bummed Lebron...may prove to be the last one.
Today's media day in Orlando brought smiles across the Orlando organization as Dwight Howard continued to be his enthusiastic self. Earlier on in the playoffs, Howard stressed frustration at Nike's MVPuppet Campaign pushing for a Lebron-Kobe duel. But to Howard's credit, he ensured that this wasn't happening this year. We all know how that ended, but that hasn't prevented Howard from having fun.
Today, a reporter gifted Dwight with his own Dwight Howard Puppet. Howard then had a conversation with his puppet, to answer a number of questions reporters were probably already going to ask.
You would think Nike was upset and nearly doomed with the MVPuppets Campaign after Lebron was ousted by Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic, but Nike is finding ways to get creative with it. Here's a commercial spot that aired last night during Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
Think we have one or two more if Kobe wins it all?
So Lebron is walking away after this weekend, and Kobe is looking at something else. His eyes lit up towards the end of his Game 6, as he knew he had another chance at a title. Still a challenging process, KB is in the Finals again at the expense of the Jazz, Rockets and Nuggets.
Will Lebron be watching the Finals? It's likely. But his e-mail buddy Dwight Howard will be playing and quite possibly be dominating the Lakers' big men. During the Conference Finals, Howard commented on his blog about how he's tired of the puppet commercials, and that he doesn't get any respect. First, he publicly complained about not getting the ball. A better solution? Tell your guards. Then he complained about Nike's puppet campaign. Another solution? Tell Adidas.
On that note...it may very well be the end of the Nike Most Valuable Puppets Campaign. Looks like Lebron is moving out, and Mrs. Lewis is having her son move in. Entertaining as they were, here's a quick recap of all six commercials as well as some cameos on ESPN.
In case you missed it, Nike debuted the second series of the Nike MVP - Most Valuable Puppets commercials, this time giving Kobe all the energy, none of which we saw last night.
We already know Kobe and Lebron are good friends. We've seen countless interviews, halftime specials of the Olympics, and hear how they talk about one another. It's not only a mutual respect, but from what we can see...or assume rather, they appear to be pretty close.
When the playoffs started this year, some people said that the playoffs were just going to be boring, and that it's just an anticipation of seeing Lebron and Kobe go at it that every one is waiting for. On the right side of the country, clearly the Cavs are far better than anybody else, and Lebron is simply stomping his way to the finals. Nobody is able to stop him or even remotely slow the beast down.
On the West, it seems to be a little bit of a struggle for Kobe and company. But that's their mode of operations, isn't it? While they still have a ways to go against Houston and Denver is becoming scarier and scarier for anyone in the L, Nike is launching a new playful commercial featuring 24 and 23.
James Jarvis is a British illustrator that was originally inspired by classic cartoons like Popeye. Taking animations into his own hands, Jarvis has been known to create his own 3D casts of characters and shoot them into their own imaginary worlds, giving each character their own role, and sometimes personality.
Most recognized for his action figures for AmosToys, his seld-created figures are typically characterized by simplistic bodies, large rounded heads. SImply put, Jarvis is an animator and illustrator that should be appreciated for the ages.
Nike has teamed up with Jarvis to create a small short film (hopefully more to come) of a simple runner. Watching the short, we follow the runner through various landscapes, creative animation and good music. The short film is called "Onwards."
Check out some of Jarvis' other work after the jump.
BSO Writer, Scott Koral started the dialogue about Nike shoes at this year's All-Star game. (see article here.) So let's go off of that and detail who's wearing what this year.
I went through most of my sneaker blogs last night and have compiled a pretty good list.
So for all the sneaker heads out there, much appreciated.
Check out Lebron's and Kobe's special edition kicks after the jump.
To start the NBA All-Star weekend in fashion this weekend, the Jordan brand will be showcasing their next 60 second commercial spot for the "Become Legendary" series.
It features Rip Hamilton, Carmelo Anthony, Joe Johnson and Chris Paul.
Check it out. It's unreal. It also features Jordan's new sneakers, the Jordan 2009. See if you can spot it. For pics of the Jordan 2009, see an older post on my blog. This has got to be one of my favorite Jordan commercials in this series that doesn't feature Jordan himself.
It happens every year around this time. Everyone wants to see what shoes the NBA All-Stars are going to wear...at least, the Nike athletes (if I had some adidas contacts, I'd show you those).
I got the goods for you, and I'll give you a preview of one now, but there are two different shoes, so, as I always say...
While BSO's Aamir Syed debates whether LeBron James will attempt to break Kobe Bryant's three-day-old Madison Square Garden single-game record of 61 points, just understand 'King James' will come in a taxi cab...Nike style...
Tuesday night, I wrote a quick story about Joe Johnson and Mike Bibby of the Atlanta Hawks wearing commemorative shoes by Nike of the presidential inauguration.
Well, Nike didn't want the public to go without, but they are available on a very limited basis. NikeBlog.com has the details of the limited availability of the new Air Jordan Pure Pressure, Inauguration Edition shoes.
So I'm sure at some point in our lives, we have come across the NikeID site and have played around with colors, stiching and different pairs of shoes. I won't lie, I do it every few days, because I'm such a sneakerhead. Came across this video on Hypebeast, and think it's pretty remarkable. This might appeal to readers who are more interested in the art of design, rendering and such, but nonethelessl, it's definitely a good watch.
Industrial designers John Muhlenkamp and Spencer Nugent take a moment here and give insight on this video which shows the rendering process involved in sneaker design. This video shows the work of genius sneaker designer, Cheng Kue, workin on a Nike basketball shoe. Take a minute and peep this.
Not long after the Atlanta Hawks watched the inauguration of our 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, two of them were fitted with special shoes, courtesy of Nike.
Putting up the Kobe video yesterday, I felt the need to share Lebron's SIX shoe webisode done with Nicole Scherzinger..I'm sure most of ya'll have already seen it, but if you haven't, then goodness...drop everything you are doing right now, and watch this.
Don't go and pumpfake me now girl.
I'm gonna take a page out of R. Littal's book, and because I'm posting this, it gives me a reason to put up a pic of homegirl.
Dear Friend,
Broken ankles can happen at anytime. Don't let your friends, loved ones or opponents suffer from slow game any longer. If your superior quickness has ever broken someone's ankles, don't just laugh at them. Get them the piece of mind they so desperately need. After a lifetime of breaking my opponent's ankles, I'm giving back to those in need. -Kobe
Kobe is now selling ankle insurance through a the AIC. Kobe, President, CEO, CFO, CMO, Owner, and Jefe of AIC introduces you to his important policy that is needed.
Most likely done by Nike's Ad Agency, Weiden+Kennedy, check out Nike's new promo for Kobe's new kicks.
There's something about Lebron donning an afro, Jay Jay Evans glasses and a fly sharkskin suit that just does something to me. *hmmph Must be that good traction. Got me smiling, I don't smile. Got me changing my expression, I don't express. If you like Lebron's "the Lebrons" commercials, you'll love LeBron paired with Nicole Scherzinger of Pussy Cat Dolls fame in Nike's blakxploitationesque Nike After 6 for Lebron VI. Chopped full of sexual innuedos, pump fakes, and smooth music gives Nike that retro vibe and did I mention a pair of Lebron VI's?
Fat laces, that new shoe smell, that genuine leather (none of that fake stuff) and classic soul music by Bob James (Westchester Lady) and Tyrone Davis (In The Mood) combined with an oh so sensual foot rub, Lebron sure does know how to treat a lady. What more can a girl ask for than her own brand new pair of "stylish" Lebron VI's?
Check out Lebron and Nicole Scheringer in After Six. Fellas will enjoy the hearing Nicole Scheringer purr. Laugh if you will. Just think of this video as a sexed up version of Penny Hardaway and Tyra Banks Lil Penny commercials back in the day. You'll be in the mood for eight tracks and throwbacks in no time! Or just plain in the mood. I know I'm "hot and bothered!" Don't pump fake me now!haha
I have to give it to Nike's marketing department, they sure do know how to turn those wheels on the exploitation, I mean capitalism machine into consumer dollars. First it was 'The Witness', then 'the Lebrons', as if his performance on the court didn't speak for itself, Lebron has become something of a phenomenon, a sports icon if you will at the ripe age of 23. In Nike's latest commercial featuring Lebron, they have him channeling Friday After Next's notorious pimp Money Mike (Powder!) in his surefire next signature move that even Ashy Larry will find cool --- making it rain chalk/powder.
On the court, in a bakery, at your favorite barbershop or in the classroom, powder is the new one dollar bill. So throw your hands up! Everyone is sure to applaud you. Who knows? It might upgrade your A-game, improve your handles, you name it! Just make sure you don't get any on your Air Force 1's, right Young Carter?
If you haven't seen it yet, check out the latest commercial from Nike and Lebron
