Whether you're getting ready to watch the NBA Finals tonight or still lamenting that Cleveland or Denver should really be there...Kevin Garnett is far ahead of this year's Finals and talking about next season. It's one thing to be confident. To be as good as KG has been, you have to be confident, arrogant even.

But when a big man comes off a huge knee surgery successfully, I don't know how good of an idea it is to go ahead and guarantee the 'ship for the Boston Celtics next season. And the next season. That's some definite confidence. Maybe I'm being too critical, maybe I'm not....but, really? Did he he see his team in the Playoffs this year? Yes, there was good. But oh boy, was there bad.

I think KG may need to slow his role, or maybe even just look at his team and what's going on in the Eastern Conference.

I met this girl back when I was in my early 20's I can't remember her name, but that is irrelevant to the story. I was home for the summer from The Ohio State University and like any young guy I was looking to hook up with as many young ladies as I could. I was trying to get over a break up so you could say my "Pimp Focus" at the time wasn't strong.

I met this girl at the zoo of all places and trust me when I tell you this she was doing me a favor by talking to me. This was definitely an upgrade. Face was beautiful, body was outstanding, she was smart, she was funny and just overall a very cool person.

I was an underdog in the relationship. I had the talent to be a #2 seed, but multiple factors had dropped me down to a #7 seed. She was a strong #2 seed, but I convinced myself I could pull the upset.

Let me say this first, as to not spark any outlandish comments (Actually, I still probably will). I am not a Boston Celtics fan, largely in part because I am a Laker fan. That's already a given. But I am an addict of basketball and furthermore, a respect anybody that has a gift, regardless of who it is. Tim Duncan? Sure, he doesn't smile and has only showed emotion once in his entire NBA career, but his game is pure; I recognize that. Karl Malone? I didn't like him much either, but his jumpshot and post game were unstoppable, and will forever be remembered for that.

Paul Pierce...yeah, I don't know what to say. He can make a jumpshot, he can get to hole, but it sure isn't pretty. When you look at his career stats, he's a top guard in the league, averaging just over 22 points eleven year career, has a bunch of All-Star nods, and yes, that championship ring and that Bill Russell MVP of the NBA Finals Trophy.

Towards the end of the season, as Garnett was out due to injury, and Ray Allen took the rest of the year off, Pierce held it down. He was throwing himself into MVP talk because he was a man playing out of his mind. And that, I respected. A player putting the team on his own back and carrying him, that's what somebody like him is supposed to do. But then when you really think about that, isn't that what is expected of him? This is his team, and KG and Ray Ray came here to help him. He should've been doing it in the first place. And when you start the playoffs, already struggling a bit and being hit with a whole bunch of bad news (Garnett and Ainge's heart attack), you expect a leader to come out and shine.

And really...all I can think about was what he said last summer.

After watching the video the question begs what will become of this little boy? Serial killer? Foster child for Bartman? Fan of T.O.? Continues to each nachos until he becomes obese and ends up on Oprah? Becomes the smartest man in the world like Ozymandias of the Watchmen and eventually drop a big squid on top of Paul Pierce's house (sorry just came from watching the movie)?

The point is the young man is now famous (thanks to me of course, wait a minute that means he might drop the Squid on me. Can someone queue up Jack Bauer "Damnit" YouTube)?

So besides getting his "Mc Hammer" on in pregame introductions Shaq also had the play of the 2009 NBA All Star game with this beautiful "Give & Go" with Chris Paul where he passes the ball between an unsuspecting Dwight Howard's legs.

To start the NBA All-Star weekend in fashion this weekend, the Jordan brand will be showcasing their next 60 second commercial spot for the "Become Legendary" series.

It features Rip Hamilton, Carmelo Anthony, Joe Johnson and Chris Paul.

Check it out. It's unreal. It also features Jordan's new sneakers, the Jordan 2009. See if you can spot it. For pics of the Jordan 2009, see an older post on my blog. This has got to be one of my favorite Jordan commercials in this series that doesn't feature Jordan himself.

So the Celtics lost a big game to the Lakers tonight, a game they seemed to have control of for majority of the game. But what's done is done. Another double-digit winning streak snapped by the same team, and the season goes on. The only time the Celtics will be able to play payback is by making it to the NBA Finals. So in the meantime, why not take their frustration out on their next opponent.

Following the first loss to the Lakers, the Celtics lost to the Warriors the following night, but ended the California road trip by destroying the Sacramento Kings by 45. What's better than following up a loss to the Lakers than a game at the Madison Square Garden?

On Monday, Kobe dropped 61. On Wednesday, Lebron dropped 52 with a triple double. On Friday...It's The Truth's turn.

Last night inside of Quicken Loans Arena, a sold out crowd waited with baited breath to see what Lebron King James and his injury prone Cleveland Cavaliers (31-7) had in store for Chris "CP3" Paul and the visiting New Orleans Hornets (23-13). This game had a different dynamic; the seemingly unbeatable Cavs are coming off a tough overtime loss on Thursday to the Chicago Bulls. The Cavs lost shooting guard Delonte West for at least 5 weeks, Zydrunas Ilgauskas for a month, and Ben Wallace limped into tonight's game after missing the last two games with an intestinal virus. On top of all of those issues, the banged up Cavs have already lost a close game to Paul and the Hornets earlier in the season. All these factors seemed to equal an easy win in the mind of Paul and the Hornets, and even in the mind of some Cleveland fans, who seem to be waiting for the other shoe to drop on the Cavaliers early season success.

BUT that shoe won't be dropping tonight! This is The King's Castle and the versatile Mr. James was ready to do anything it took to remain undefeated (20-0) on his home court. He proved that again last night by playing all five positions for the banged up Cavs. Unfortunately, for the frustrated Hornets, a win in Cleveland against the Cavaliers, would be tougher to get than they ever could've imagined.

According to TMZ.com, Paul Pierce was pulled over at 3:30 AM when police noticed he was "driving erratically". The cops smelled alcohol coming from the car. He took a Breathalyzer test which he passed. Despite committing an illegal lane change, the cops let him go because it was a minor thing. So if there is no DUI what's the story?

The story is that, since he won an NBA title, he's letting this newfound fame get to his head. Its one thing to declare yourself the best basketball player in the world, but it's another to get behind the wheel after tossing back some alcohol and quite possibly endangering not only your life but the lives of others on the road.

Dude you are worth millions of dollars. How hard is it to pay someone to drive you wherever you go? I mean isn't that the perk of being rich to be able to pay people to do things for you? The Celtics made an investment in you to not get caught up in this sort of thing. The least you could do is oblige. Just because you weren't legally drunk this time does not mean you will be so lucky the next time.

paulpierce.jpg

So, while in Spain, Paul Pierce told a reporter that he thinks he is the best player in the world. They must have some really good weed in Madrid. Has Ricky Williams shipped them a dime bag

(*disclaimer* Hey kids, the Bona Fide Sports Expert has never smoked in his life and still is Bona Fide. So don't do drugs).

The only thing Paul Pierce is the best of is faking a torn ACL. Paul Pierce isn't even the best player on his team (see: Kevin Garnett).

Look PP, you had a great finals. You played inspired ball and spectacular defense. They could not have won the title without you. I'm happy you got your one ring because you've been through a lot in Boston. But don't get it twisted. You aren't better than:

Bean
The King
Timmy
CP3
D Wade
KG

And there would be a serious discussion whether you are better than the next tier of 10 or so superstars in the NBA. I know you feel like you can puff out your chest a little bit, but in the words of the Rock:

"Know you role and shut your mouth"

Game 1 can be pretty easily broken down. The Celtics dominated the boards and defensively clamped down on the Lakers and specifically Kobe Bryant in the second half. The Lakers played a very sound 1st half, but they made a crucial mistake when Paul Pierce got hurt. (More on that in a second.) They relaxed and allowed the Celtics, while Pierce was in the locker room, to believe they could win without him. So when he came back on the floor, they rode that energy to a victory.

Kobe has to play better. The Lakers as a whole played well until they started to miss a lot of open shots in the 4th quarter. The defense the Celtics are playing on Kobe is very similar, if not the same, to what they played on Lebron James. It is designed to force the other players to win games and frustrate the superstar into tough shots. You could see Kobe fighting the urge to go Kobe circa 2004. Overall he made some very pretty passes, but he seemed confused by the defense. Great players though make adjustments and I would not be shocked if we see a dominant performance in Game 2.

I have nothing against Paul Pierce and I am sure his knee is hurt, but if you get taken off the court in a wheelchair only to return a few minutes later then you couldn't have been as hurt as you were letting on. I don't think it was intentional and he played a very solid game, but please spare me the Willis Reed comments or how courageous and miraculous it was. It would have been miraculous if we find out tomorrow he has a blown ACL. Then I will be impressed. Don't over-blow something that shouldn't even be a story. He got a little scared overacted a bit realized it wasn't as bad as he first thought, came back on the floor and hit some threes. The story ends there.

Chris-Paul_NBA-All-Star-2008.jpg

That gasp you just heard is from Darth Kobe fans all around the world whom I just shocked with my proclamation that Chris Paul not Bean is my 2007-08 NBA MVP. This is a decision that I have been struggling with for the past couple of months, so let me explain how I have come to this conclusion.

At the All-Star break it seem like a no brainer that the MVP would be going to Kobe Bryant who is still in my opinion the best pure player in the game. The knock that he isn't a "team player" and "doesn't make his teammates better" has always been the cliché that the media and people who dislike Kobe the personally would say when trying to minimize his tremendous talent.

They said the same thing about Michael Jordan until he got some talented players then he was the "ultimate competitor." Hence, I always found that critisms about Kobe comical. Magically, once he got some better teammates his team became one of the best teams in the West and a West that is stacked from top to bottom. Kobe of 2008 isn't that much different from Kobe of 2007 or 2006. What is different is that the players around him are allowing him to show that it is a lot easier to play a "team" game when you have teammates that you can trust.

The fact that he has kept his team together through a lot of injuries, not just to the team but also to himself. Does anyone remember that he is dealing with a broken pinky that the team wanted him to get surgery on. The reason you don't remember is because he has still been deadly efficient while keeping the Lakers right at the top of the Western Conference even after losing Andrew Bynum for the majority of the year and Pau Gasol for a couple of weeks.

Kobe Bryant should already have an MVP trophy, but circumstances and bias have prevented that from happening. If he is named NBA MVP you won't get any complaints from me. However, in the end I think CP3 was just a little bit better and I will tell you why.
