I don't really have anything profound to say. I am as shocked as everyone else. It sports we talk about the difference between "great" players and "legendary" players. MJ was MJ way before Michael Jordan was MJ.

The differences between great NBA coaches and poor coaches are subtle because most coaches at the NBA level are basketball experts. For example, Stan Van Gundy has been widely criticized by the media during the 2009 NBA playoffs while Phil Jackson has been praised with very little criticism. Why does the sports media differ in their treatment of these two coaches when they have both coached their team to the NBA Finals?

The referees in the playoffs have been bad. And everyone all over the country has complained about it. Usually the losing team coach, players and fans are the loudest. A lot of it is the whole confusion about what is a flagrant 1 or flagrant 2 that is confusing from the NBA. And the fact that there are playoff games with road teams that aren't aggressive (the Lakers) shooting 45+ free throws should be an embarrassment to the league. And the refs missing the flopping (Anderson Varejao) in the league has become such a problem that they had to come up with a penalty for flopping. But I'm taking the refs off the hook a little bit and putting a lot of the blame on the players.

So the Lakers this past weekend traded Radmanovic for Adam Morrison and Shannon Brown, two relatively undefined players in the league. Radman, a known and proven shooter on multiple teams was a good back-up or role player for Phil Jackson. Why did they trade him? Some say cap-room, some say the "space cadet" was just not mentally there for the Lakers. Phil Jackson had told him to see a psychologist multiple times, to which he only refused. And maybe the tipping point was just a few weeks ago, when he showed up to a home game shoot around telling the Lakers that his alarm clock wasn't working. Really? Alarm clock?
Clearly he wasn't happy, and is already taking public jabs at the Laker organization saying that players other than Kobe and Gasol have no real role on the Lakers. I assume that's up to personal preference, but everybody on that team has a pretty defined role and it's doing proving to be of some success.
Regardless, he's gone. And enter Morrison and Brown. Are they going to get run? Or is this just a process for something even larger? Steve Kerr has confirmed that Amare Stoudemire and Shaquille O'Neal are on the trading block, and is hoping to move one if not both by the Feb. 19 trade deadline. Amare, yes, everybody wants. But a 36-year old aging center? There's only one team that could take on Shaq and use him successfully... Yeah, I said it. The Lakers just might make a run at Shaq.

Los Angeles Lakers head coach, Phil Jackson will be featured in a special interview during the ABC broadcast of Sunday's Laker game with the Spurs. An interview conducted by Magic Johnson, Phil Jackson discusses how he anticipates retiring after the 2009-2010 NBA season, when his contract with the Lakers expires. Jackson stresses that Lakers owner Jerry Buss has emphasized his desire to keep Jackson as coach, but he just wants to take one season at a time.
Considered one of the greatest coaches of all-time, 1010-426 record, an incredible .703 winning percentage as well as a 193-84 playoff record. He owns nine championship rings (6 with Chicago, 3 with Los Angeles) and has never hid his desire to own more championship rings than the late Boston head coach, Red Auerback, who also owns nine with Boston. Jackson has coached the most dominant player to ever play the game, Michael Jordan and was behind the nearly untouchable perfect season in the 95-96 season, going 72-10 with the Chicago Bulls.
At age 63, and two hip replacement surgeries, Jackson has been an NBA head coach for 18 years, after a 12-year playing career. He was also inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007. What this means for the Los Angeles Lakers franchise remains to be unseen, but Jackson is sure to aim for that 10th ring in the next two years.

Just reading the sports news today, and I see the San Francisco 49ers interviewed Baltimore Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson Friday morning for their open offensive coordinator position. You would think that's not a big deal, until you start connecting dots, and there are plenty.

No matter how quickly you got up Steven you still got destroyed.
Phil, you reminded me why I used to hate you so much. You'd fallen off my 'I got nothin for that guy' list because you'd managed to avoid falling into your old habit. But now you've relapsed in a huge way.
Phil, please, for the sake of everyone.....SHUT UP ALREADY! Your team did not get hosed by the refs. Yes, there were some bad calls, but you got plenty of makeup non calls in the second half. Your guys got called for seven more fouls than the Celtics did, just seven. And since they got in the penalty relatively early in more than one quarter, a lot of free throws came from non-shooting fouls. That's life, Phil. Tell your guys to stop reaching in and fouling on putbacks of offensive rebounds. And while you're at it, tell them to stop shooting so many friggin jump shots if they want to go to the line more. You don't get a lot of fouls called on jump shots, Phil. You know that.
But you're back on my list because you went back to your Bulls coaching days with your latest complaint. Just like you were prone to do whenever my Knicks won a game against your team, you cried about the foul shots, or lack thereof, that your team got. So now you're back on my list, Phil. Now the refs, being human, are going to call it your way in game three.
Kobe Bryant will have to pull out a saw-offed shotgun and start blasting in order to get in foul trouble early, and I full expect the 'if he's got three fouls at halftime, he can murder the other guy in the second half because we're not going to give him six' rule to be in effect with Kobe like it used to be wih MJ. If your team doesn't win game three, then the Apocalyse is upon us and we'd better all say our prayers.
Stop crying Phil, it's bad form! Of course it works for you, so I don't expect you to stop. I haven't forgotten how your team got the biggest gift ever from the refs in game six against the Kings six years ago. You're back on my list Phil, and this time you're not coming off.
