Shaq has played with some of the best players of our generation.

1- Prime Penny Hardaway
2- Kobe Bryant
3- Dwanye Wade
4- Steve Nash
5- Lebron James

You would think with these types of wing men he should have more than four titles but I digress. Lets examine each relationship and then I will tell you why you should feel uneasy if you are a Cavs fan.

I knew it was going to happen it was just a matter of time. It always happens to the "ultra" good. It happened to Jordan, it happened to Wilt, it happened to Barkley, it happened to Stockton and Malone, it happened to Kobe (different reason) and etc.

When are spectacular good you start to be defined not by "stats", but by "Championships" and Lebron James is about to find out about this the hard way.

aamir, parade1.jpgWhile thousands of Laker fans hit the Coliseum for the Laker parade, there's a lot of work going on behind the world of sports. Word in Boston now, is Ray Allen is getting traded for Adriana Lima. Lebron doesn't win the 'ship but still gets to take his friends to the White House. Tiger is officially back, and to some...A-Rod is on his way. We learn of McHale's end to coaching...thanks to Kevin Love's Twitter. The Ryan Leaf saga oddly continues. Interesting day in sports. Mid-week daily line. Enjoy.

We had been together since nearly October, and when we began our year together and collectively, for the good and bad, we had many dreams and hopes. I had dreams for Championships and countless wins for my home team while you had hopes for another successful season with no tainted images that have so feverishly filled previous seasons thanks to gambling officials and unbelievable fights amongst players and fans.

And while you leave in celebratory fashion as you do every year, this year you leave me yearning for more. You leave me with so many questions. You leave and leave me with no choice but to wait impatiently for...what? Even this, you have failed to give me as you walk into the shadows of Los Angeles riots and parades with trade rumors flourishing under you.

Don't leave. Please.

And here's another one campaigning Lebron for the 2010 season.

When will they stop?

Drama Queen James

|

The Cleveland Cavaliers lost in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Orlando Magic. In losing the elimination game, Lebron James raced off the court, showered, and got on his team bus to go home.

lebron locker room pout.jpg

Lebron James has been hammered by the fans and media for refusing to shake hands with the Orlando Magic players and for skipping the mandatory press conference. Since James is a superstar, most people feel it is important that he abide by the common rules and customs of the league. Many feel that Lebron has an obligation to set a good example for young basketball fans and players, and that Lebron's unsportsmanlike behavior and childlike antics are unacceptable.

While many have criticized Lebron for his actions, few have had the courage to address why Lebron acted this way. Most just assume that he was being a sore loser and did not want to talk to anyone because he lost an important game. In other words, Lebron was being a poor sport.

And the NBA trade rumors and draft talk begins! Stephen Curry wants to be in New York, and Chris Bosh refuses to sign an extension with Toronto, all while being the first NBA player to create an iPhone app. Shaq and company are following him. Arnold is joining the campaign to bring the FIFA World Cup to the US while David Stern is taking $25k from Lebron. Oh, and did I mention that Danny Ainge doesn't have patience for Rajon Rondo to grow up? He's calling Rondo moody, questioning if his teammates hate playing with him. Oh, and check out the White House Playground.

BSO Daily Line... enjoy the weekend.

aamir, shaqlebron.jpg

Today, we have a whole bunch of NBA trade rumors. What would happen if Shaq ended up moving to Cleveland? We've got Phoenix rumors, Cleveland rumors, Washington trade rumors. Hell, even Boston trade rumors. Throw that in with the top kicks of the 1990s, Vince Young acting a fool, David Ortiz being defined as one and somebody in the MLB might have Swine Flu? Hmm...Oh, and Lebron underwent surgery for 5 hours.

All that and a little bit more in today's Daily Line.

aamir, kblj.jpg

So Lebron is walking away after this weekend, and Kobe is looking at something else. His eyes lit up towards the end of his Game 6, as he knew he had another chance at a title. Still a challenging process, KB is in the Finals again at the expense of the Jazz, Rockets and Nuggets.

Will Lebron be watching the Finals? It's likely. But his e-mail buddy Dwight Howard will be playing and quite possibly be dominating the Lakers' big men. During the Conference Finals, Howard commented on his blog about how he's tired of the puppet commercials, and that he doesn't get any respect. First, he publicly complained about not getting the ball. A better solution? Tell your guards. Then he complained about Nike's puppet campaign. Another solution? Tell Adidas.

On that note...it may very well be the end of the Nike Most Valuable Puppets Campaign. Looks like Lebron is moving out, and Mrs. Lewis is having her son move in. Entertaining as they were, here's a quick recap of all six commercials as well as some cameos on ESPN.

aamir, kobe dwight.jpg

But still, let's not discount the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Denver Nuggets. As we've been doing since the first round (which seems like months ago), let's do a quick recap of what we saw in the third round of these incredible yet inconsistent playoffs.

While we get ready for the Los Angeles Lakers and Orlando Magic this coming Thursday, there's still much to talk about when it comes to the rest of the league, and namely the runner ups of each conference.

Let's do a third round recap.

lebronwalks.jpg

Obviously didn't Lebron didn't read my "Open Letter" to him a couple of weeks ago about him being a "drama queen".

Last night after being destroyed by the Orlando Magic in Game 6th of the Eastern Conference finals "The King" acted more like a spoiled prince. Lebron refused to shake hands with any of the Magic players and then decided he was to "angry" to attend the post game press conference which is required by the NBA. Instead Mo Williams was forced to the podium to congratulate the Magic and explain why the best team in the league would not be going to the NBA Finals (by the way I have gotten on Mo Williams a lot in this series but he has my respect for doing a stand up job in that press conference).

lebron_mj.jpg

One of the first sports books I ever read was "The Jordan Rules" by Stan Smith. One of the main features of the book was a philosophy by Detroit Pistons head coach Chuck Daly (RIP) on the best way to defend Michael Jordan.

The interesting thing was Daly knew you couldn't totally stop Jordan, but the plan was to force him to play 1 on 5 and to beat his brains in for the entire series.

Fast forward to 2009 and you are Lebron James. You have your "Scottie Pippen" Mo Williams not even playing to a Craig Hodges level (what was up with Mo almost crying after the game, dude is weird). Your big men are either statues (Big Z) or offensively challenged (Side Show Bob). You have a forward that is 100 years old (Joe Smith) and another one that is Wally Freakin Szerbiak for goodness sake. It is truly amazing (do not play that Kanye West song again!!!) that Lebron has kept this series with the Magic as close as it is.

.

aamir, lebron kobe.jpg

And another one. This one shows Kobe and Lebron playing one on one. Good music in the background, Cool Kids is the soundtrack for this one.

Wonder if Nike is worried about the Nuggets and Magic as much as the Lakers and Cavs are.

aamir, arizasteal.jpg

Three games into each Conference Final, we have seen six unbelievable games, all coming down to the last minute. From the thievery taking place both in Los Angeles and in Denver to big shots by multiple people on each team, some incredible basketball is taking place. It has been some time since both Conference Finals series have been this highly competitive, that you truly cannot say which team is going to take the series. True, at the onset of this year's playoffs, many people automatically said that it was going to be a Lakers-Cavaliers series. Then the Lakers became a subpar struggling team and all of a sudden, people began to write off the Lakers just as they immediately counted the Magic out of the series against a dominant Cleveland team.

However, the level of basketball we are seeing from there four teams this series has truly been remarkable. Watching forty-eight minutes of each game has definitely been an entertaining experience. Now... it really is in the air as to which teams we will see in the NBA finals. And this is largely in part due to just good basketball, offense and defense (for the most part).

But as I, myself say that...I am more and more finding it harder to believe. Because through it all, in each game, there has been one consistent thing: MENTAL LAPSES.

joey-crawofrd.jpg

If I had $500 in my pocket right now (which I don't) and I needed to get advice on who to bet that money on for an NBA Playoff game who would I go to?

Not the great RJ Bell at Pregame.com.
Not anyone on ESPN (some please shut down their NBA Shoot Around show ASAP).
Not Lee Cordova (it is best you don't know who he is or what he does).

I would go straight to:

JOEY CRAWFORD

I have been getting on Lebron lately about he WWE/Paris Hilton antics after he gets fouled and cramping after game one (which is all fact by the way), but don't get it twisted:

I AM A WITNESS

lebronwwe.jpg

Dear Lebron,

First let me say that I am a Witness. Your play last night was not human. You were 20-30 from the field and that simply doesn't happen in the NBA. You were even able to add eight assists, six boards, three blocks and two steals while only committing two turnovers. Those numbers are even more impressive considering your teammates were of little to no help to you last night and your coach decided to use the NBA2K9 playbook offense:

GIVE THE BALL TO LEBRON AND EVERYONE GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY.

I understand it is hard playing 1 on 5 and I understand it is hard playing for a coach who if you mention the triangle or motion offense looks at you like you are talking quantum physics. So when I tell you this has nothing to do with your game on the court I mean it.

Physically LB you are the best player in the league and if you get your ring you will end all debate who is the best player in the league period. With that being said it is time for someone to tell you what everyone has been whispering behind your back:

STOP ACTING LIKE A DAMN DRAMA QUEEN

p1.mvp.jpg

I am going to be honest I am a little tired of the Lebron/Kobe debate. It has been overkill as of late especially considering they are two totally different players at two totally different times in their career.

But I was Twittering it up this morning (http://www.twitter.com/BlkSportsOnline) with my friend mrsFAB (http://www.twitter.com/mrsFAB) about Lebron/Kobe which she made an interesting point that got me to thinking. She was pointing out how she would like Lebron to get his ring, but she thinks Kobe will. I think that is the sentiment of a lot of people and since a lot of people ask me all the time what do I mean when I say they are totally different players and different times in their careers it inspired me to write the comparisons in terms that everyone could understand.

Lebron vs. Kobe = Forman vs. Ali

Over the weekend, the Sprite Slam Dunk Showdown made its stop in L.A. The event rode into the city as part of the NBA Nation mobile basketball tour which brings basketball fans together in a virtual Hoops paradise. Fans can explore the 18 wheeler show truck or even get the chance to have a 3 point shoot out against one of the league's stars, on deck for my visit was L.A. Clippers rookie Eric Gordon. The highlight of the day is of course the dunk contest!

aamir, dhrr.jpg

Another full two weeks gone by, and the second round has come to an end. Which arguably also means there is only about one month left of professional basketball left this season. A little bittersweet.

But were there surprises this round. With the depleted defending champions finally knocked out, and last year's runner-up taken to the brink of an elimination game, there are a lot of things we still learned from this enigmatic second round of the playoffs.

Let's take a look.

carmelodunk.jpg

2nd round Record: 3-1

Overall Record: 9-3

Eastern Conference:

#1 Cleveland Cavaliers vs. #3 Orlando Magic

One thing I can guarantee is that the Cavaliers won't sweep the Magic. The Magic present a lot of matchup problems for the Cavs. They are very similar to Lakers they have a lot of size up front, there forwards are long and athletic and their point guard play is a little shaky.

The Magic have the personnel to beat the Cavaliers, but do they have the playoff intensity to beat them? I give them credit for beating the Celtics, but to be honest that series should not have went more than five games as the Magic were clearly the superior team personnel wise.

The Cavs come in with extreme confidence and have been playing the best ball of anyone in the playoffs. With that being said there sweeps have been against far inferior teams.

They have the best player in the league and they have the home court. They are playing with a chip on their shoulder as if they are a team of destiny.

I think it is going to be a good series, but Cleveland mentally is focus on a championship whereas I think Orlando is just happy to make it to the conference finals.

Cavs 4-2

Western Conference:

#1 Los Angeles Lakers vs. #2 Denver Nuggets

We already know Kobe and Lebron are good friends. We've seen countless interviews, halftime specials of the Olympics, and hear how they talk about one another. It's not only a mutual respect, but from what we can see...or assume rather, they appear to be pretty close.

When the playoffs started this year, some people said that the playoffs were just going to be boring, and that it's just an anticipation of seeing Lebron and Kobe go at it that every one is waiting for. On the right side of the country, clearly the Cavs are far better than anybody else, and Lebron is simply stomping his way to the finals. Nobody is able to stop him or even remotely slow the beast down.

On the West, it seems to be a little bit of a struggle for Kobe and company. But that's their mode of operations, isn't it? While they still have a ways to go against Houston and Denver is becoming scarier and scarier for anyone in the L, Nike is launching a new playful commercial featuring 24 and 23.

This report is from Saturday May 9th we have another report coming from Friday and Sunday.

SkyHigh & Haneef in Atlanta for the Sprite SlamDunk Showdown

Sprite Slam Dunk Show Down

b5.jpg

With the help of Lebron James, the NBA and Sprite teamed up together and brought out the best amateur dunkers in Atlanta on Saturday May 9, 2009. The contest was held at Atlanta's own, Sweet Auburn Festival. This annual celebration was held in the heart of Atlanta's African American community.

Is there anything that Lebron can't do?

aamir, hunger.jpg

By definition: hun·ger (hŭng'gər)

a) A strong desire or craving; a need for food.
b) The discomfort, weakness, or pain caused by a prolonged lack of food.

We all know this definition. We know that when the lion, the king of the jungle is hungry, he goes and gets what is rightfully his...well what he believes is his. The lion goes and gets whatever he desires. And rarely do we see any one thing or object stop the lion, unless it's...well, the ultimate end result, death. But in it's efforts, the lion is ruthless. Fierce. Vigilant.

But hunger also brings a further refined definition, come this time of year.

c) The aspiration for something more, the chance to begin a legacy; the thirst for an NBA championship.

lebronjamessprite.jpg

The NBA and Sprite, with the help of LeBron James, are bringing the best amateur dunkers in the U.S. to the NBA All-Star Weekend 2010 in Dallas to crown a Sprite Slam Dunk Showdown champion. It's time to put non-NBA dunkers with the skills on the big stage!

aamir, lbjtrophy.jpg

And we finally can say it officially...Lebron James is this year's MVP. There's no question that was going to happen with a consistently energetic season, averaging 28.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists a game. After a bitter taste in his mouth losing to Boston in Boston in Game 7 last year, Lebron ensured his team wouldn't have to deal with that problem this year, leading his team to the number one team in the entire L. Lebron becomes the youngest player to win the award since Moses Malone (in 1978-79) at 24 years, 106 days. Wes Unseld will forever hold the record winning the MVP award at 23 in 1968-69.

But let's play devil's advocate for a second.

aamir, bulls.jpg

There are 30 teams in the NBA, but every year, there are only a number of teams that are considered playoff teams, and of those 16-18 playoff teams, there are only a few teams that are considered contenders. And in all honesty, it seems like that number is too small. I don't care how die-hard of a Detroit, Philadelphia, Chicago or Dallas fan you are...your team is not going to make the NBA Finals. If you're lucky, these teams might make a little bit of noise, but that's about it.

For teams in building mode like Charlotte, Oklahoma City, Memphis and Minnesota, they understand they aren't at that level yet, and only aspire to reach that level. Minnesota, you may remember was at that level for about a year and a half.

An avid watcher of the NBA for over a decade, I have seen amazing teams come and go, dynasties built and dismantled and through it all, all these teams go through a window... and typically, it's not very big. And with the season officially over, and playoffs starting this weekend...allow me to explain.

KANYEEZYAND NBA, SO AMAZING!

|

The NBA Playoffs are upon us and although the majority of us, including your sexy model-writer, are salivating at a clobbering in Cleveland and a looting in LA showdown between the Cavaliers and Lakers, the NBA has other plans in store. Mr. West and the NBA have paired up to give you something so amazing with a NBA playoffs commercial featuring the song "Amazing" from Yeezy's hit album 808's and Heartbreaks.

From Dwyane Wade's reverse layup to a Dwight Howard monster jam to LeBron catching an alley-oop and a buzzer beater by Kobe, prepare to witness amazing happening this year. Let the playoffs begin!

"If rap was a game I'll be MVP, the most valuable poet on the M.I.C." Big L "MVP"

Doesn't matter if it is the rap game or the sports game debate over who is the true MVP will always cause controversy.

If you have been following me on Twitter you should know how hotly the NBA MVP topic has been debated (http://www.twitter.com/BlkSportsOnline).

The reason being everyone's definition of Most Valuable Player is a little different. Of course the only person's opinion that should matter is mine. Why you ask? Because I am a BonaFide Sports Expert and I only speak the truth.

So without further ado here is my 2008-09 NBA MVP:

1- Lebron James 28.4 7.6 7.4 48.9%

The King is the only person in the league who I believe is capable of averaging a triple double, but 28 7 7 while shooting almost 50% from the field is pretty impressive.
Add on he has led his team to the best record in the league, has improved his defense tremendously & has developed not quite a "serial killer" a mentality, but at least an "assault with a deadly weapon" mentally it all adds up in my mind to what should be an unanimous selection for MVP.

Also I want to point out to the D Wade supporters who say that Lebron has the far superior team to the Heat. While I agree that the Cavs are better than the Heat, we aren't talking about the 86 Celtics here. You are talking about a team that gives quality minutes to Wally Szczerbiak for goodness sake. Lebron has taken a team filled with B- and C level players and led them to 65+ wins. Considering they will have more wins this year than the Celtics had last year with three hall of fame caliber players on their roster tells me all I need to know about The King. That is why he is my MVP.

*Sidenote*

Lebron gets a bonus MVP vote from me for helping me come up with the phrases "Pimp Focus" & "Reject Bench". If you don't know what that means Google it and you will see what I am talking about.

2- Dwyane Wade 30.2 7.5 4.6 49.1

Here is all you need to know about D Wade:

kobe-and-lebron.jpg

I am speaking on my 10 Cheating Commandments on Twitter right now (http://www.twitter.com/BlkSportsOnline).

Can we just fast forward through the NBA playoffs and straight to the Finals? Because David Stern already knows who is going to be in it.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Cleveland Cavaliers

Three things have happened to guarantee this is the Final we will be seeing this year:

1- KG won't be 100%
2- Manu is out for the playoffs
3- Bynum is back and is looking good.

NBA Intro Wars

|

As the playoffs begin to fade for Phoenix, Cleveland, however is making big strides, pulling away as the number one team in the NBA.

Lebron has taken photo-ops one step further, as Mo Williams is now playing baseball.

How far will the intros go? And are they good for the NBA? It's making it a little bit more entertaining, but are they going to make something up every single time throughout the playoffs?

Might get old. Maybe.

There is not much not to like about Lebron James. He is a beast on the court doesn't have any off the court drama and specifically because of him we added two new phrases to the BlackSportsOnline lexicon:

"Pimp Focus" & "Reject Bench"

For more of the what is in the BSO Lexicon follow me on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/BlkSportsOnline

But if there is one thing I beg of Lebron to change is his penchant to go "Vince Carter" on the smallest bit contact. He has a bad habit of anytime he is hit to lay on the court like he has been shot by one of the guns T.I. was trying to buy. Vince Carter is known for this. Paul Pierce did an Oscar level performance of this during the NBA Finals.

Mega stars do not do this even if they are hurt. How many times do you remember Jordan laying on the court? Kobe Bryant dislocated his finger in a game against the Cavaliers earlier this season in the first quarter. His finger looked like the letter L. He called a time out had it popped back into place and hit a jumper on the next possession. That is how big time stars react to getting hurt.

Even with that being said it wasn't a big enough gripe to write about until today when Lebron ran over a referee in his game against the Mavericks. The video shows the 6'9 270 pounds Lebron barreling into the ref but amazingly the 47 year old ref gets right up and Lebron acts like he has run into Superman.

aamir, shaqjab.jpg

We all know Shaq is a clown. We love it. Earlier this week, we talked about Lebron's pre-game antics of snapping team photos...Shaq, the Twitter-king, original Superman, the newest member of the Jabbawockeez, and so much more... has something else for Bron Bron. Shaq was quoted, calling Lebron's camera gig "weak." So Shaq pulled his bag of tricks out, and now goes bowling pre-game.

Furthermore, Shaq has challenged Lebron.

"Everybody always talks about LeBron's weak intro, so I challenge LeBron to intros," Shaq said, post-game. "Alright? So he does his little camera thing, we did our bowling thing, we'll let the people decide. If he changes his intro, then I'm going to change my intro."

Videos after the jump. You guys decide...which one is better?

In a 60 minutes interview...Lebron James is interviewed by Steve Kroft, talking about how he is near his peak. Holding a ball, and seemingly doing absolutely nothing with it, Kroft asks James what he's going to do with the ball...

Reminiscent of Powerade commercials, Lebron gets rid of it...

As the Cleveland Cavaliers make their way to the top of the Eastern Conference in dominant fashion, and likely the first team to reach 60 games this season, Lebron James and co. are enjoying every minute of it. The past few games, Lebron has nominated himself as team cameraman, and is taking various team shots. This team is having so much fun playing team basketball right now, you would think they are a high school team dominating their whole city district.

And to add to that, I don't think there's a team in the league with more chemistry than the Cavaliers. Whether its Lebron posterizing somebody on offense and defense, or anyone else scoring, the team is genuinely happy and proud of their success together. I don't care how good Paul Pierce is playing right now and that the Celtics are the defending Champions...Lebron's Cavs are the team to beat in the Eastern Conference.

And at the unbelievable rate he's going, there is no way anyone else will win this year's MVP.

The two most recognized basketball leagues in the U.S. are of course, the NBA and the NCAA, college basketball. The CBA and ABA once had prominence throughout, but have since dwindled. But still, the NBDL survives, though few pay attention to it.

But this is where James White could change this. Like the NBDL, James White is vaguely known. A starting guard for the Anaheim Arsenal, White has become known as one of the most dominant offensive players in the Development League. Through 34 games this year, he had averaged 25.9 points a game, and any game White played with the Arsenal was guaranteed some form of highlight.

If you don't know who James White is...pay close attention. Rockets fans, pay even closer attention...he just might be your new franchise guard.

I have seen some pretty impressive things in the NBA this year, but Lebron's "Pimp Focus" on blocking this shot is right up there near the top.

The greatest thing about this play is the fact that Jason Richardson is so confident that he has the dunk that he tries to get on Sportscenter and do the 360 only to be denied by Lebron. I actually missed it when it happened because I was going back and forth between the Suns vs. Cavs and UCONN vs. Syracuse (which I think is in 47th overtime now). When I saw the replay I was like:

DAMNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!

That is almost as embarrassing as being left on the "Reject Bench".

BSO

Lebron continues to amaze me with his performance on and off the court. If you havealready witnessed his underhanded half court shot he banked before going on to kill the Memphis Grizzlies 99-78, I know you feel me 110%.

Joe Johnson thinks he can take a shot at seizing King James crown for half man, half amazing shots with a sit down three pointer that defies a little gravity of its own. The ease at which both men throw up the rock is equivalent to the urge to throw the Roc sign up when you hear Jay-Z "Give It To Me" or "Roc Boys"

Throw in Dwight Howard's Half Court Shot and Lebron got some serious contending to do!

Thought I would lighten the mood a little bit. Lebron James threw a party last weekend called:

"A Night With LeBron James" in ATL at MF's in Buckhead. Polow Da Don was the host for this special event. Music was sponsored by DJ Ox Banga, DJ Steph Floss and Bryan Michael Cox.

As you can see above the Ladies were out in full force. When "Ya Boy" throws a party I have the same quality women minus about thirty of those girls. You know I make it "Partly Cloudy" in the club, but I digress.

*UPDATE*

Lebron's "Pimp Focus" was definitely behind the arc last when he dropped the "Double Nickel" on the Bucks. You can check out the highlights above. There was also a minor scuffle as well with Charlie Villanueva and Zadrunis Ilgauskas where Villanueva puts Big Z in Big Show style chokehold.

Honesty is the best policy unless you are cheating on your spouse or significant other then I suggest you got the Eddie Murphy "It Wasn't Me" route.

Kobe Bryant was asked who would win in a game of 1 on 1 between him and Lebron and showing why we call him "Darth" Kobe around this parts he didn't hesitate in saying he is the best 1 on 1 player in the game. Seemed a bit offended the question was even asked. Personally the only two NBA Finals matchups I want to see are either Boston vs. LA or Cleveland vs. LA anything else would be a let down.

kobe-lebron.jpg

aamir, lebron6.jpg

When Lebron James came into the league, he was immediately thrown nearly unrealistic expectations, and given the title "King." He was to be the heir to the new generation of the NBA, leading the league to never-seen before heights and carrying the league on his shoulders and evolve into what many still believe to this day...the best player to ever play the game. They were saying this in high school. They would've said it in college. Lebron went number one in the 2003 NBA Draft, and went on to surpass all expectations given to him in his first year, showing that King James truly does have the potential to be the best player to ever play this game.

But how did it all start? Where did Lebron get his motivation and drive from, that he became such a magnificent force? Lebron considers getting facets of his game from many players, from Julius Erving to George Gervin to Magic Johnson. But one player he notes, as every other young player growing up will tell you, he credits Michael Jordan.

Lebron went with the two-three citing Jordan as his hero. As a freshman, James actually wore #32, but changed to #23 his sophomore year, and the rest is...well it's not history. it's current. We have seen James transcend himself into the spotlight as the most marketable player in the NBA. He is among in the constant debate of whether or not he is the best player in the NBA. At age 24, it's definitely scary to see how high his game will go as he matures.

But the question is... is Lebron living in Michael Jordan's shadow? And is it time to change that?

For those of you who happened to miss the Laker-Cavs game last night, or just fast forwarded through half-time, ABC featured Kobe and Lebron in a never-done-before interview where they sit together and discuss each other's games.

A very good segment. Check it out below:

Talk about a crazy week in the NBA. Today, league offices announced after reviewing the game tape that one of Lebron's rebounds actually belonged to Ben Wallace.

That being said, Lebron only had 9 rebounds while Wallace ended up with 2. The rebound in discussion was at 39.3 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The recorded rebound was awarded to Lebron, when Ben Wallace was the real recipient of the rebound.

Lebron's official stat line ends up being 52 points, 11 assists and 9 rebounds.

Make no mistake about it Lebron James' 52 point triple double trumps Kobe Bryant's 61 point outburst. If you need a factual reason when you are at the water cooler or the barbershop tomorrow consider this:

The last player to score 50 points as part of a points-rebounds-assists triple double was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on Jan. 19, 1975.

When you do something that hasn't in 24 years that is special. Scoring 61 points is very difficult, but it happens and you will see it before again before 2010, but you won't see a 50 point triple double for a very long time.

Lebron is a young dude just wait until he hits his prime. Scary thought.

It appears that Lebron "Pimp Focus" was on letting you know that while Bean is still #1, The King is a strong 1b.

While BSO's Aamir Syed debates whether LeBron James will attempt to break Kobe Bryant's three-day-old Madison Square Garden single-game record of 61 points, just understand 'King James' will come in a taxi cab...Nike style...

Let us first applause David Stern because he always seems to know what's going on months in advance before we do. Of course he knew that this year would be the season that Bron Bron would have an MVP season and be practically unstoppable this year. Of course he knew the Lakers would be the top team in the Western Conference halfway through the season. And he knew that Bynum would get injured to the same team and same month as he did last year. Stern knew it was only right to have the Lakers visit NYC the next game, so Kobe could take the sports' biggest stage and make sure the rest of the league knew that Kobe and Lakers aren't messing around even with Bynum gone. And of course David Stern knew this, so the only smart decision in the scheduling would be to have Lebron play the Kncks immediately after. (Let's also note that David Stern has the Lakers playing Toronto tonight, the team he scored 81 against seasons ago. Genius, I tell you. Genius. He already knew this would happen)

Oh, the media will eat this up. Be it ESPN, LA or Cleveland, somebody will say something. But you know New York is going to consume themselves in this.

Topic of conversation...Lebron is looking to beat Kobe's MSG record.

The play that changed the game. Who knows what happens if the Cardinals score a touchdown before the half. When you are the defensive player of the year you are expected to make big plays and that is what James Harrison did.

I think he is still receiving oxygen though as we speak.

One of the minor criticisms of the King's game is that he hasn't had enough "buzzer beaters". To be a serial killer you have to be able to murder at the end of games not just at the beginning.

Beautiful step back jumper to beat the Warriors from the King.

Forget the debate. It'll be a round-about argument between the world.

GQ recently called Lebron "the best player in the world."
DIME magazine gave that title to Kobe last year.
Mark Jackson calls Kobe "the best player in the universe."
Jeff Van Gundy calls Lebron "the most complete player to ever play in the NBA."...but would take Kobe in the last 3 minutes of any game.

So I'll let the debate go on and on and on and just say this.

These two specimens are the best players in the league.

You may have been seeing the 5-6 second commercial, with just Lebron's back at a press conference, saying it took him a minute to come up with the decision he has made, and the commercial cuts to tomorrow's date, January 18, 2009.

Well... looks like homeboy is going to the NFL with the help of State Farm Insurance. See how far these commercials go with Bron-Bron with the Cleveland Browns.

Now, it has been widely reported, on this site and many others in the sports world, about the plight of one young Darius Miles trying to collect his millions from a contract signed long ago with the Portland Trail Blazers.

When Miles signed his second ten-day contract with the Memphis Grizzlies this past Saturday, the countdown began to see the Trail Blazers be forced to either pay the luxury tax or cut some members of the team due to an $18 million payout for Miles playing in 10 games in a single season.

(Just point me to the cash!)

The countdown is at 1...

Sports, even women's sports, have always been a boys' club. While I'd like to think I've made small strides in the reporting of sports with my weekly video NFL picks, when it comes to the mass media, it's still male dominated. Therefore I've decided to go behind the scenes at some NBA games and get the scoop from the female perspective.

As I walked in the media entrance at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, I got the first of many "You're a writer?!" stares. A woman, any woman, would stand out; so an attractive one only makes the situation even more confusing to the rows of older, sun-starved men in polo shirts. I found my seat in the media section settled in to watch one of the most anticipated games of the year between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics.

amberpresspass.jpg

The Cavs came into Friday night's match-up unbeaten at home while the Celtics were still reeling from three tough losses in a row. Many were anxious to see if the Cavaliers would be able to continue the dominance they have had this season against a formidable opponent like the Celtics without their big man up front, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, who is out with an ankle injury. Though the Cavs lead the entire game, there was no shortage of action as the Celtics gave the Cavs everything they had. In the end however, they were out matched and outscored time and time again.

I must take a moment for fashion before I get to the action of the game. The Cavs wore a tribute to the 1970s hardwood classic jersey and donned a blue and yellow number. I'm tempted to say that this further shows how deep down, even Ohioans (is that a word?) love the Maize and Blue, but I digress. The uniforms were fashionable but a part of me wished they would have also donned the short-shorts of the 70s to go with them. I'm pretty sure I was the only reporter there with that thought.

lbj powder 1.9.09.jpg

Finally, we can talk about something other than crab dribbles.

Since last summer, Lebron James has had a bitter taste in his mouth after nearly single handedly taking the Celtics out of the playoffs, and chalking himself up for a Finals showdown with the Lakers. He trimmed down, and took it out on the rest of the world bringing home a gold medal in the Olympics.

Enter game 1 of the season...Lebron was looking for some sort of redemption and revenge. Instead, Boston got their rings, and started their road to a 27-2 start. It was the first game for a new look Cavalier squad, and they still needed to mesh, and figure it out. Needless to say, I think they've figured it out.

There aren't many things that come through my email that have me at a lost for words. So when I saw the email subject line of:

"Check out Jay Z & Beyonce at Knicks/Cavs game"

I didn't think nothing of it then I saw the pic and..........................................

*silence*

Then

*more silence*

My top 5 rappers of all time goes:

1- Tupac
2- Jay Z
3- Biggie
4- Wu-Tang
5- Outkast

After this picture I am seriously considering dropping Jigga off the list. Actually I don't think this is Jay Z, but I can't figure out why Roger from "What's Happening" got courtside seats with Beyonce.

What does this has to do with sports? Nothing really, but I am the boss so it doesn't really matter.

I would say Jay's "Pimp Focus" is strong, but........................

I have to give it to Nike's marketing department, they sure do know how to turn those wheels on the exploitation, I mean capitalism machine into consumer dollars. First it was 'The Witness', then 'the Lebrons', as if his performance on the court didn't speak for itself, Lebron has become something of a phenomenon, a sports icon if you will at the ripe age of 23. In Nike's latest commercial featuring Lebron, they have him channeling Friday After Next's notorious pimp Money Mike (Powder!) in his surefire next signature move that even Ashy Larry will find cool --- making it rain chalk/powder.

On the court, in a bakery, at your favorite barbershop or in the classroom, powder is the new one dollar bill. So throw your hands up! Everyone is sure to applaud you. Who knows? It might upgrade your A-game, improve your handles, you name it! Just make sure you don't get any on your Air Force 1's, right Young Carter?

In twist of fate more topsy-turvy than a ride on Cedar Point's Magnum, New York Knicks' president Donnie Walsh, threw a curveball into the midst of the Crawford-Harrington deal by dickering and dealing Zach Randolph into the equation. A long way from his low scoring, lackluster performance days trailblazing in Portland, Zach has been putting up numbers, averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds a game. Since his girl chasing years at Michigan State, including a flirty encounter with yours truly, I always thought Zach's boyish mannerisms, baby face and under developed talents were better suited for posting up opponents at the Breslin Center than out rebounding opponents at the Rose Garden so nobody other than fellow Spartans, friends and family are as pleased as I am at his evolution into a NBA caliber offensive rebounder and scorer. If there was one decent decision made in the Isaiah Thomas era, it was acquiring Randolph in 2007. Although pleasantly surprised at the 260 pound power forward-center, Walsh just couldn't imagine a foreseeable future including Randolph in newly crowned Knicks' coach Mike D'Antoni's run and gun style of offense, opting instead for a more versatile and inexpensive Al Harrington of Golden State fame.

"Al is a true NBA veteran who possesses multi-positional skills," D'Antoni commented. "He will fit perfectly into our system and will help us win some games immediately."

Here's the rundown of the two trades: The Knicks acquire Cuttino Mobley (2 years, $18.9M), Al Harrington (2 years, $19.2M) and Tim Thomas (2 years, $12.5M) while sending Zach Randolph, Jamal Crawford, and Mardy Collins packing - Zach Randolph (3 years, $48M) and Mardy Collins (2 years, $2.8M) to the LA Clippers and Jamal Crawford (3 years, $28M) to Golden State Warriors. The Clippers in addition to acquiring Randolph and Collins, may have to give up a future second round draft pick. This undoubtedly is a power play to clear up cap space in the tune of $78.8 million, saving roughly $27.5 million as Thomas and Harrington's deals will fall off New York's payroll by summer 2010 to strategically position the Knicks in the rat race also known as the 2010 free agent class. New York has a nice fat chunk of cheese to woo a certain number 23 and possibly another illustrious player who will remain anonymous but has been known to go by the nickname "The Flash."

"I think that opening up cap space down the road for us is a big plus on our side and I hope our fans understand that that can give us an opportunity to make the team better according to the plan that I've outlined,"
Walsh was quoted as saying. "So I'm trying to be true to what I said from day one, and that's what I'm doing."
With the Nets postponing their move to Brooklyn due to an unfinished arena, expect the Knicks to be a front runner in snatching up free agents left and right in a class that not only includes Lebron, Bosh and Wade, but potentially high profilers Shaq, Steve Nash, Amare Stoudamire, Dirk Norwitzki, Yao Ming, Tracy Mcgrady, Manu Ginobili, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, among others! Will Lebron take a bite of the Big Apple? As much as money talks, Lebron will follow suit where he feels he can fulfill his desire to win a championship. All I can say it's no wonder why Eve found this fruit so tempting.

Hello New York!

The classic lines from this commercial are aplenty. The real question is what "Business" Lebron after the cameras went off. It goes without saying that Lebron's "Pimp Focus" is strong in this one.

LeBron James will be featured in a documentary chronicling his rise to stardom and how he and four childhood friends overcame long odds to win a national championship in high school. According to Yahoo.com, this is set to be featured at the Toronto International Film Festival which he will be attending this weekend. This film involves footage taken during James' career at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in nearby Akron, along with one-on-one interviews by writer/director Kris Belman, home videos, and personal family photographs, the film is about much more than basketball. At its core is a story of friendship, loyalty and love.

In the end LeBron wants this to be a lesson to youngsters to dream big and never give up.

So the USA women's gymnastics team lost to a bunch of 14 year old Chinese gymnasts. Get over it. You lost, woman up and move on. It isn't like the US hasn't bent a rule or a 100 with our athletes over the years. I am tired of all this whining and complaining after you lose. So the Chinese chicks were 14 or 15 as oppose to 16 so what? Stop falling off the balance beams and you would have won no questions asked.

It is blatantly obvious the Chinese kids were underage, but if was a big deal all the other countries should have pushed harder for an investigation before the games started instead of crying after they got their asses beat.

There was no way the IOC was going to overturn those results. Have you checked out the Chinese Army lately? That was never going to happen so be happy with your silver medal and Lebron's "Pimp Focus" on your asses (those over 18 of course).

The last thing we need before the USA Basketball team captures gold is for Bean to sabotage the entire thing because of his lust for the white booty. Now, we all know Misty May-Treanor has a donk (queue the Soldier Boy Youtube for those who don't know what a "Donk" is).

Off topic, but has there ever been a more perfect porn name than Misty May? Even when she got married, it still sounded pornish. But I digress.

We need Darth to focus of the court, not for the next episode of "AssWatchers". You know when Vanessa sees this picture, he is going to have to come off "A Milli" on a diamond necklace or something. Kobe, fight the temptation; homie, fight the temptation.

lebronolympics2.jpg

As far Lebron, go for it!!!! Check out how Lebron is completely oblivious to what Chris Paul and Jason Kidd are talking about. That is the type of ass focus that pimps are legendary for.

*Edit* Emails have been flying in saying that isn't Misty May, but hey, it is much cooler to say Misty May, isn't it? If anyone can ID the athlete hit me up.

There are reports that Lebron James would listen to offers from European teams starting at 50 million dollars per year. Hold on let me insert the proper gif now:

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Now lets talk about the reality of the situation. There is no way Lebron or any high profile basketball player is going to leave the United States for Europe. It makes sense for the Josh Childress types to make the move, but from a financial standpoint, it makes no sense for a Lebron, Kobe or DWade to make the switch simply because the marketing aspects and exposure in the United States will always be much greater.

So while it is fun to speculate, the closest Lebron will get to International ballin is those Chinese Brothels he and the crew have been visiting.

robert.jpg

bronwademellobrothel2.jpg

First, let me say this information is coming from the Chinese version of the National Inquiry so take it for what it is worth. Secondly, the best thing about Melo, DWade and The King getting some "Love Me Long Time" affection is that Kobe Bryant wasn't with them because, if he were, that would have been an international incident. See your BonaFide Sports Expert will travel continents to provide you with stories you just won't get anywhere else. Now I got this as a tip from a Chinese reader who obviously though I could read Chinese because the story is in Chinese. Thanks to the handy "Google Translator," I can bring it to you in English. If the USA doesn't bring home the Gold Medal, we can all blame the Chinese prostitutes.

Sorry Cleveland fans (and Knicks fans for that matter) it is a done deal Lebron James will be a Brooklyn Net very soon. The verbal agreement is already in place between him and Jay Z. It's a rap (you love my play on words don't you) I have it on good authority from a person in the Jay Z camp that this has been in the works for awhile and Cleveland's inability to surround Lebron with the proper talent sealed the deal.

Speaking to me on the condition of anonymity this is what the source had to say about the situation:

"Jay wants to make a big splash when the Nets come to Brooklyn. At every opportunity he is in Lebron's ear telling him he can be bigger than Michael Jordan, but he can't do that in Cleveland. He is telling him that if he comes to Brooklyn he will be seen as a savior because Brooklyn is still hurting of the Dodgers and that was damn near 60 years ago."

He went on to say:

"Lebron doesn't just want to be a basketball player he wants to be a global icon. He looks up to Jay because Jay went from being a rapper to one of the most powerful and influential men in the world. Lebron wants to be remembered like that and he thinks Jay can help him. That is why he is dropping hints about coming to Brooklyn. He loves Cleveland but they have dropped the ball. Trust me this is a done deal he will be in a Nets uniform."

I don't blame Lebron because beyond Neo Bryant he is the most talented player in the league and unlike Kobe he is only 23. He hasn't even touch the surface of his potential. Cleveland has had every opportunity to make the team better but right now it is Lebron and the Pips. If history has showed us anything it is that one man can't win a championship so a change of scenery maybe in order.

When NBA Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing was a freshman at Georgetown, the Hoyas worked out with members of the Washington Bullets (now known as the Wizards). Ewing will always remember one question he got from one of the Bullets.

It was Mitch Kupchak, saying to me, 'Why are you in college? You should be in the NBA. You're ready to play right now," Ewing said. "In his mind I was ready, but my college experience was something I've always treasured."

Times sure have changed since Ewing was a freshman in 1981. During that summer's draft the first three picks were underclassmen, but the rest of the first round picks were all seniors. In the 2007 draft, only six of the 30 first round picks were seniors.

As of June 12th, 13 freshmen have already declared for the 2008 NBA Draft. All of those 13 freshmen are expected to be taken in the draft with the probability of the first five picks all being freshmen. Also, for the second year in a row, the top pick is considered to be a choice between two freshmen. Unlike Ewing, who will always treasure his college moments, the kids of today cannot wait for their opportunity in the NBA.

There are huge numbers of fans out there that I like to call:

"Janet Jacksons"

Meaning when it comes to superstars, their slogan is:

"What have you done for me lately?"

These are the same fans who make statements such as:

"Kobe has never won a title without Shaq."

As if Kobe was the 12th man on those teams! These same fans are the ones who are saying, "Lebron is overrated," and that he cost the Cavs the series against the Celtics. These are the same fans that form their opinions based on either simple statistics or just plain bias. These claims are ridiculous to anyone who watches basketball and knows the sport.

Does Lebron have faults? Of course, he needs to work on his mid range jump shot, play better defensively, and cut down on his turnovers. Did he play his best series against the Celtics: Definitely Not! He shot horribly, turned it over way too many times and made some bad late-game decisions. Let's not fool ourselves, though. There is no way the Cavs could have made it to Game 7 without Lebron James because, without him, they are the Charlotte Bobcats.

I have personally been critical of James in the past for his lack of a "serial killer" mentality. However, if you watched Game 7 of the Celtics vs. Cavs series, what you saw, if you were paying attention, was a player so talented that he was able to keep a team in the game by himself. There are only a handful of players in the league that can do this by themselves. Sometimes, even in a losing effort, greatness can be seen (e.g., Jordan's 63 in the Garden). If you can't see that Lebron James is only touching the surface of what he is capable of doing, then you have blinders on.

The consensus is that Kobe Bryant is the best player in the league. But Kobe is almost 30 years old. Lebron is only 23 and, unlike Kobe, when Lebron came into the league, he was expected to be a savior. He was expected to be one of the greatest players, not just in the league, but in the history of basketball. More than anyone else since 23 left the building, he was expected to carry that mantle.

In my opinion, he is a bit underrated, if anything, because I remember all the naysayers that said he was going to be fail miserably and never live up to expectations. No one expected him to make the NBA Finals at age 22. No one expected him to ever lead the league in scoring. He has exceeded expectations and, while he has room for improvement, it is laughable that people are questioning his greatness which is only going to grow. He hasn't even come close to reaching his peak potential.

Just like all great players, be it Jordan, Hakeem, CP3, Kobe, Shaq, etc., you can't win without the right combination of teammates and the right coach. Everyone can't be like Magic Johnson and just fall into the right situation. You can be the greatest player of all time, but one player will never beat five. You can honestly say that there isn't one person on the Cleveland roster that is worth keeping.

I was listening to sports radio and someone made a very good point that Cleveland is made up of Lebron and eleven "6th men". The fact that Cleveland is an even competitive team says more about Lebron than anything else. It also doesn't help that Mike Brown might be the worse offensive coach of all time. At this point, we have a Michael Jordan/Doug Collins situation going on. Mike Brown is good for now, but, trust me, by the time Lebron is winning championships, he won't be the coach.

What a great way to show mom how much you love her the day after Mother's Day!

"Me responding to DeShawn is like Jay Z dissing Soulja Boy" Lebron James

And with those words, a battle of minimal proportions was started. You would think that Jigga would have more important things to do than make diss songs about C level basketball players. (I mean he just married Beyonce; shouldn't they be on some tropical island or something.) But, when you are worth over 300 million dollars I guess you can do what you want.

Soulja Boy seems to be the only one handling the situation with any maturity which is somewhat disturbing in its own right. I am now wanting this series to go seven games so in Game 7, I can see the rap off between Soulja Boy and Jay Z. Maybe Usher will show up and bring Young Jeezy with him (yeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!). Could someone please make sure Rhianna is there. That might make this nonsense all worthwhile.

For those who wanted to hear the diss track here you go. I wasn't very impressed.

nba_jamesvogue_200.jpg

First, I need everyone to calm down. I know what you are thinking because I thought the same thing when I saw Lebron with Tom Brady's chick on the cover of Vogue.

kingkong.jpg

I have no personal problem with Lebron posing for the cover of Vogue with a Brazilian white woman. However, Lebron needs to be aware that, even though it is 2008, there are a lot of people who still think like it is 1958.

He also needs to realize that the average Black has to overcome 1958 stereotypes on a daily basis. When a star athlete does something, albeit unknowingly. to perpetuate a stereotype, it only makes it harder on the rest of us. I honestly believe that Lebron didn't realize what a stir this would cause mainly because, when one has 100 million plus dollars in the bank, one sometimes forgets that little things like this can have big implications.

With that being said, everyone relax. Lets not make it into a national crisis. It is just a young kid who, to some eyes, made a mistake. Let's move on. I don't want to see Al Sharpton boycotting Vogue, Jesse Jackson giving a speech, or Obama forced to talk about it. Trust me, it isn't that serious.

Kobe vs. Lebron? I'll take The King

|

kobe_Lebron_411.jpg

It's talked about with feverish passion at one-point or another at any local barbershop. It's debated over and over for countless hours without ever ending with a winner. It has nothing to do with politics or overpaid prostitutes. Like Optimus Prime or Megatron, Randy Moss or TO, Nas or Jay-Z, Kobe Bryant and Lebron James are just the latest duo to captivate us.

While both are great players, there are several reasons i'd have to give Lebron the slight edge on the timeless "who's best wing player in the NBA" debate.

Besides the obvious that Lebron James is younger, if you look closer into their games James just doesn't have the level of selfishness that Bryant and a host of other comparable players in the NBA have.

Now if you have been following closely, and I stress closely, following the career of Kobe, you'd know that his ego sometimes gets in the way of his game. If Kobe is having a off-night, and the defense is really keying on him. Kobe will often take it personally and as a challenge. He then starts to shoot his team out of the game instead of playing the decoy and just getting his guys involved. Lebron James thinks the game of basketball at all times, not just most of the time. He's always making plays for his teammates. You never see Lebron getting caught up in a personal battle with the opposing star to the detriment of his team as Kobe sometimes does. Lebron wants to set the table for the basketball play regardless of who scores. Kobe wants the play to start and end with him. You say my opinion is biased somehow? Well lets look a little further.

Lets look into leadership which is a vital part of a superstar's role in any sport. In Kobe Bryant, we have a player who has, without a doubt, outsmarted himself. He had one of the most dominant centers in NBA history in his prime on his side and what did he do? After winnining 3 NBA titles with Shaq, Kobe decided that it wasn't good enough. He wanted to win a championship while he got the most touches while being the first option. So in a nutshell, he wanted to average 30ppg instead of 24ppg. He wanted to be Superman instead of Batman.

What Kobe failed to realize is that the fans didn't think of him as a sidekick. He, himself, was seen as a super-hero, not Shaq's Scottie Pippen. Bryant helped drive the car that got Shaq traded out of LA because he wanted the spotlight to himself. What went on afterwards is mindboggling. Bryant now had the Lakers to himself, but he quickly realized that winning alone was no easy task. Bryant's scoring indeed went up while Lakers wins went down. Kobe has since repeatedly butted heads with his coach, bailed out on team-mates in a crucial playoff game 7 against the Suns which was well publicized. Most recently, he demanded a trade, citing that he needs more help to win. Make sense to you? I know it didn't. Talk about irony!
