We Shall Overcome…What Exactly??

The Philadelphia chapter of the NAACP and other civil right groups are scheduled to March tonight for Michael Vick. What is the purpose and goal of the March? There are much bigger social issues that the NAACP should be worried about.
NAACP Mission Statement:
“The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.”
The NAACP has been a great civil rights organization for over 100 years. It has fought for many years against injustice. But what injustice are they Marching on for Michael Vick? I’ve read their mission statement over and over again and don’t see where the plight of Michael Vick fits. Michael Vick did knowingly run a dog fighting ring for 5-6 years. This wasn’t racial discrimination, this was a Man running an illegal operation.
I hate when you dont talk about sports but this is soooooooooooooo true. NAACP and PETA are just using Vick for themselves
Why are they making it a race issue at all??
because most of the peta protesters are not people of color and they are preventing a black man who like you said did his time from trying to move on and become a productive citizen. thats the injustice it may not be directly related to race but we can agree that the peta protesters like picking on people who cant fight back. and no big organization is fighting peta in defense of vick so maybe its just them telling peta to pick on somebody there own size. Peta will never go head to head with another big organization because they tend to only jump in when they clearly have the majority on their side like when this whole thing with vick first started and anyone who opposes gets attacked also. like if you remember correctly before vick went to prison and the media went and asked other stars about the situation any player who defended vick in anyway was put on the peta hit list…… or peta went to that particular team and got on them
Peta always uses celebrities to make their points. When they throw blood on furs they don’t do it to regular people. Obviously race plays a small part, but if a white QB had done this Peta would be going crazy as well. And the truth is how much of a protest did Peta have tonight?
If it was an injustice it was very slight. Michael Vick brought this on himself. I hope after they protested for Vick they protested for health care, or the poor Philadelphia school systems. This thinking is why they’re not relevant anymore.
NAACP is only looking for promotion.
I have believed for a long time that the NAACP has no relavence to what is going on in black america today and they waste time advancing thier own agendas instead of the good of poor black americans who happen to be the group that would need representation and protection the most. But instead they would rather run to the aid of a soon to be rich again black athelete? HUH? The NAACP shouldnt be protecting any wealthy black celebrity. They can afford high-powered attorneys.
