With so many negative stories about athletes we always try to feature positive stories of athletes giving back. Especially around holiday time when some many are in need. This charity event by Charlotte Bobcats guard Raymond Felton is just what people need to hear about. Here are the details:
The Book Bank Foundation (BBF) and Charlotte Bobcats point guard, Raymond Felton of the NBA; will be giving back to the Charlotte community for the Holiday in an unprecedented way. Partnering in the charity event is revered philanthropist, sports/celebrity super-agent, and BBF founder Glenn Toby. “As the demands of the people increase in these tough economical times, so do the hearts of the people who would like to help,” states Toby; “Communities are shaping and growing together more than ever. We are hoping that communities around the world will watch this effort.” The charity event marks the first time ever a Bobcats player will have attempted to feed over 200 people during the Thanksgiving Holiday. With the strong support of The Book Bank Foundation, Felton knows that this event will be an extreme success. “History starts now!” Felton claims.
Over the last 12 years, the BBF has helped nearly 125,000 people as they promote and advocate literacy by using motivational speakers, models of positive behavior, scholastic achievement, and resourceful thinkers to stimulate self-esteem, academic achievement, future goal setting, and stories of achievement in communities where illiteracy exists. They strive to decrease the number of illiterate by providing sound and innovative ways of promoting learning, social awareness and individual prosperity.
Boldly wielding his influence and mass appeal, Felton intends to carry on The BBF’s torch of hope and charity in an effort to enlighten Charlotte’s poverty stricken. Included in the less fortunate are an estimated 3,000 children that will be provided food, clothing, non-perishable goods, inspiration and wisdom. Felton plans on echoing the BBF’s principals, all while incorporating in his own. “I’m happy to be at a place in my life where I can be a blessing to others”, says Felton. “The BBF’s principals are ones dear to my heart, I’m excited to work with them and contribute to their cause.”
Bobcats shooting guard, Gerald Henderson, Kamille Leai, VH1’s ‘Hot Wings’ of “Real Chance of Love”, and VH1’s Dalen Spratt of “I Want to Work for Diddy2” will also join the BBF along with Felton, to serve and speak to the attendees of the event. Thanksgiving provisions offered at 2 locations throughout the day: from 8am-12pm at The Uptown Shelter, 1210 N. Tryon Street; and from 12pm-3pm at The Salvation Army, 534 Spratt Street.
Join us as we give back to the Charlotte community, to whom much is given, much is required! The Book Bank Foundation-where knowledge equals wealth, one word at a time!
