I agree Wacko... I think to a certain degree we all want the utopic good health for all involved. however, I can't stop anyone from smoking at the MARTA stop. I cannot geni blink that soldier a new limb that was lost during war. The point is they have options before lacing up and strapping on equipment. I find it really AMUSING that we would take the time to blog and debate the health of some of the most financially privelidged people on the planet. My real concern is for the Pop Warners through high schooler. Beyond that it is usually a trade off or a potential reward for playing. Professional athletes across the board have demonstrated that they will do whatever to stay on top. I'll spend my time pondering the woes of the less fortunate in my own family and community for now.

Listen..we all care to an extent. Nobody likes to see serious injury. But its really not my place to care about their health. They are professional athletes and understand the risks involved. Every sport has seen this. Hell they played without helmets for years. There were problems, they made changes. People get hurt and the game goes on. If you dont want players to get injured just put flags on them and lets play a nice game of flag football. Quit protecting them by change the basic rules of the game.

Here, here! I totally agree with the entire post. As a mother of a son who plays football, I'm worried about concussions and even other repeated strong blows to the head which can end up registering as much damage as a concussion or at least make him more prone to a concussion. Reading more of the studies about the brains of men who've played football and the damage they have even at 40 and 50 years old is terrifying. Will the public care? Will football end? Highly doubtful but it would be nice to see the league take a more proactive approach to it. They are acting like the tobacco industry did and are likely to keep acting just like the tobacco industry until somebody wins billions of dollars in a class action suit.
