All good things must come to an end, so alas it is time for us to say goodbye to:

Jake Delhomme and his infamous Goat.

The Carolina Panthers have put Delhomme on injured reserved (he broke knuckle on his middle finger on November 29^th).

People always asked what is the origin of the Goat, so this is a good time to tell you.

When I was a very young BonaFide Sports Expert I had a Voltron toy.  You know Voltron the very popular 80’s cartoon.

To form Voltron you needed to have all five lions, but I had lost one of the Lions.  So I was walking around with a very sad and frustrated face when my Uncle Clyde came over and saw this he said:

“Boy what is wrong with you, you look like you lost your Pet Goat.”

My uncle was a bit of a alcoholic, so I don’t know exactly what he knew what he meant, but from that point on as a grew up (elementary school, high school, college, young adult and currently broken down parent) when someone looked sad or frustrated I would say:

“What’s wrong looks like you lost your goat?”

After one of the many Jake Delhomme interceptions the face he made was such a classic look of sadness and frustrations I tweeted:

“Jake Delhomme looked like he just lost his goat.”

The legend of Delhomme and his goat was born.  Alas Jake may never play for another NFL team and his goat has now moved on to Chicago.
