BlackSportsOnline: NFL MVP
Most Valuable Player means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. When I asked the NFL they simply said the player with the most outstanding season. I specifically asked if it had to be tied to “team success” and I was told no.
So without further ado here are the Top 5 BSO NFL MVPs:
1- Chris Johnson
The stats speak for themselves. The greatest yards from scrimmage season a running back has ever had. The 6th player to rush for 2000 yards and here is my personal favorite.
Johnson had three runs of 85 yards or more this year.
No Running Back has ever had three runs over 85 yards in their entire career.
Case closed.
2- Peyton Manning
How great is Manning? Did you see what happened when the Colts put in their backup quarterback?
3- Philip Rivers
The only thing stopping Rivers from being mentioned in the elite tier of quarterbacks is a Super Bowl ring and that could change very shortly.
4- Darelle Revis/Charles Woodson
The best compliment I can give Revis is that when Deion Sanders came to the Cowboys they ran mostly a zone defense. Deion promptly said:
“You can play zone on the other side I am on, I am playing man.”
In essence that is what the Jets do with Revis (with a little safety help) because they have that much faith in his cover skills.
Woodson is amazing. I was still in college when he was terrorizing Ohio State and he is still one of if not the best overall cornerback in the game (sacks, ints, pass defenses and fumbles caused).
5- Brett Favre
Say what you want about Favre, but the Vikings probably wouldn’t be the #2 seed in the NFC without him. On top of that he has had one of his best statistical seasons ever. He is 40 and still playing at an elite level. Yes he is a diva, but he is a diva that produces.

I like the CJ argument more and more. First of all because he is without a doubt deserving. Second, do we really have to give Peyton ANOTHER one!?!? But that's just like opinion man.
I'm sorry, but Chris Johnson was playing during the Titans 0-6 start. He deserves Offensive Player of the Year, which is what he was, but not MVP. The exact same thing would have happened to the Titans with or without him, which is staying home for the playoffs. Peyton Manning, Philip Rivers, Drew Brees, you can't say the same thing about those men.
The gigantic problem with the Chris Johnson argument is that he played the whole season and the team went 8-8 in games he started. Vince Young played 10 games and the team went 8-2. He's not even the most valuable player on his own team. Wins and losses are all that matter in the NFL. Take your stat garbage and assign it to the Offensive Player of the Year award, where it belongs.
I usually respect what you write Littal, but in no way does Chris Johnson deserve a Most Valuable Player award when his team didn't even make the playoffs.
How do you not have Drew Brees even on your list? He set a record for best completion percentage in a season, threw for the most touchdowns, had less interceptions than Manning, and was the highest rated QB in the league.
As far as Johnson not getting when he did something only six backs have down, all you have to do is look at last season. Drew Brees threw for 5,000 yards, which only one other QB had ever done, and he did not win. Brees did win offensive player of the year, which I believe Johnson will win this year.
If you are the MVP of you team and your team is a mediocre then you must not be that valuable.
