The moment of truth is coming soon for Ben Roethlisberger as the Associated Press reports that his sexual assault case has been handed over to the district attorney who will make the decision to prosecute or not.
If Roethlisberger is charged it is expected that he will be suspended indefinitely by Roger Goodell.
If he isn’t charged he will still face a suspension, just one not as long.
It should be noted that Roethlisberger, on the advice of his attorney Ed Garland, never submitted a DNA sample or spoke to investigators in the case. That was his legal right and no one knows if that will have an effect on whether he will be charged or not.
The District Attorney is probably considering a few things. With such a high-profile case it isn’t about if the D.A. believes the accuser, he has to be 99% sure he can get a conviction. He also has to take into consideration that not charging Roethlisberger would hurt his credibility if more information comes to light. The fact that this happened in Georgia and not Pittsburgh plays into his favor because I don’t think there is any pressure one way or another, people just want the truth.
I can’t really call it.
I say it is 50/50 right now what happens; your guess is as good as mine.
