Your first reaction is probably:
“Who?”
You may remember Chris Douglas-Roberts from the Memphis team that went to the Final Four with Derrick Rose. The self-proclaimed “Better 2nd year player in the league” is currently balling for the New Jersey Nets.
Of course Douglas-Roberts has a Twitter account where he exercises his freedom of speech to bash the VH1 reality show “Basketball Wives.” This is well within his rights, he isn’t hurting anyone by expressing his thoughts. I just have a few minor issues with his tweets:
Issue #1
One of his tweets says the following:
Royce said she’s walking down the isle in her wedding to Uncle Luke “Tootsie Roll”
If you are going to tell a good joke, make sure you have the correct facts. I know he is young, so I am going to give him a pass on this one, but Luke didn’t do “Tootsie Roll;” that was the 69 Boyz (YouTube has been included).
I wouldn’t mind seeing Royce doing the Tootsie Roll, but that is a another story for another day.
Issue #2
He refers to them as “Basketball Widows.” Maybe he means a creative play on words like the NBA players are “dead to them,” but considering he went to Memphis that might be giving him too much credit.
To be a “Widow,” you first have to be married – which we know most of the women on that show aren’t – and secondly the “husband” has to be dead, and last I checked Erik Williams was still destroying ribs on the show so everyone is alive and well.
In general, I see what CDR is saying but he needs to upgrade the jokes just a tad and maybe work on that handle a little more so he can stop being benched by the Nets. For someone who “dislikes” the show he certainly seems to be glued to the TV every Sunday to watch.
I wonder if he knows he is a “target” now? Most young guys don’t realize that a lot of the time, the women they diss are the ones they end up with. There is something in my email inbox right now that, if true, says CDR likes to “simp” a little bit on a “basketball widow” type, but I digress.
Carry on.
