We live in a free society, so in theory as long as it isn’t against the law, we can do whatever we please. If you want to go to the club every day that is your right, if you want to sleep with every member of Young Money, Kat Stacks-style, then get your Break Lamps on, if you want to sit on your couch all day and grow a beard like Rasheed Wallace, who am I to tell you what to do?
But if I could give one piece of advice to athletes it would be that if you are going to go to the club or the bar, please be aware of your surroundings.
The majority of these incidents that are taking place are in public bars or clubs where fans, who have had a little too much to drink, have too great access to athletes.
The latest athlete is Jared Allen. Allen, who has been charged with DUI three times, is seen outside of a bar in Arizona getting into it with some guy because he disrespected his fiancee’; TMZ has the additional details:
Jared and his fiancee were hangin’ at the Grapevine bar in Scottsdale, AZ a few weekends ago when some dude allegedly hurled the 4-letter slur towards the future Mrs. Quarterback Destroyer.
When Jared heard the insult, the 6’6″, 270 pound Pro Bowler — who’s also an avid hunter — told the guy, “I’ll break your f*cking neck homeboy … and then I’ll write a check to your f*cking name too.”
In the video, a woman can be seen dragging Jared away from the other man. We’re told both Jared and the other dude each left the bar without further incident.
Jared’s rep at EAG Sports Management tells TMZ, “No matter what, Jared will always protect and defend his family.”
In general, I have no problem with Allen protecting his woman. The line about breaking his neck and cashing the check is comedic gold, but this is a situation that could have gotten out of control very quickly. And Allen, who has been in trouble and suspended before by the NFL, doesn’t need any slips by punching some random in a bar. Allen may have been able to cash the check, but no check would have saved him from Roger Goodell.
