Pretty scary situation, and not the first time it has happened to Shockey. Last year, he was taken to a hospital in Vegas after he collapsed. Here are the details from Profootballtalk.com:
Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey has been hospitalized in New Orleans, according to ABC26 and NewOrleans.com.
Per the report, Shockey experienced seizure-like symptoms in the team’s weight room. He was able to walk to an ambulance.
The development comes one year and three days after Shockey was taken to a hospital in Las Vegas. He was suffering from dehydration.
It was good he was able to walk to the ambulance under his own power. Hopefully it isn’t anything serious, but I am sure they will do a battery of tests before letting him back on the field.
*UPDATE*
Here are a few more details from the people who were at the scene:
“It was a little scary; it looked like maybe a mild seizure or a full body cramp or something,” the player said. “There were a decent amount of guys in the weight room at the time. At first nobody really knew what was going on, but the trainers took control of the situation after a while.
“He was shaking and everything, and he was basically out of it for probably a minute or so, but it seemed longer. After he started coming back everything was pretty much all right. He seemed aware and everything seemed OK after a while. He got up and was walking around.”
