Former New York Giants star linebacker Lawrence Taylor was arrested today in New York on rape charges. WCBS2 reports that the alleged assault took place at the Holiday Inn Holidome Hotel in Suffern, NY. Details surrounding the early-morning incident are still unclear, but a news conference is scheduled for later this afternoon. As the story develops, BSO will keep you updated.
UPDATE:
A local paper is reporting that Taylor is being charged with 3rd degree rape, which involves sex with a minor. Allegedly, Taylor engaged in intercourse with a 16 year old runaway that was under the control of a pimp. Reports are surfacing that the girl was also beaten at some point during her time at the hotel; whether Taylor is a party to that is still unclear.
UPDATE #2
Ramapo police supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence told the Journal News that the victim was a runaway from the Bronx and that she had been assaulted.
“She was a runaway since March and there was a pimp involved,” St. Lawrence told the paper. “She got punched in the face. We’re not sure who did it.”
UPDATE #3
Taylor was charged with third-degree rape, a felony charge that carries a term of up to four years in prison. Taylor was also charged with third-degree patronizing of a prostitute, a misdemeanor charge that carries a term of up to one year in prison.
He posted a $75,000 bail and was released.
