Each week BlackSportsOnline will profile a model who is doing big things in the world of modeling and other entertainment or professional industries. At the end of the year there will be a vote for the BSO Model of the Year.
Enjoy.

How did you start Modeling?
I first started modeling when I was 17 after being approached by a local modeling agency. My first paid gig was a runway show for Baby Phat. After experiencing the fun of the runway, I began to develop my portfolio, hoping for more work.
What about modeling is attractive to you, beyond just the pretty pictures?
Growing up, I was such a huge tomboy. I loved the satisfaction of being almost the opposite of what my classmates saw me as. In a way, I became someone else. I used to carry my basketball to class with me. No one ever thought I would even be interested in modeling.
In your opinion what is the difference from a professional model and “Myspace Model”?
Professional models are about networking, building their portfolio, and getting paid work. MySpace models take pictures for “their haters.” A MySpace model would be laughed out of an agency if they even tried.
What works are you most proud of?
After being published in Essence Magazine, Heart&Soul, and all of the runway shows I’ve done, I’m most proud of being consistent, and getting paid to do something very fun! Not one ranks higher than the others.
Beyond modeling, what are your other careers or other passions?
My passion is basketball. Although my mom says that I traded my basketball in for the runway, I’m a huge NBA and college basketball fan. Other than that, I’m a student at UNLV (psychology major) and I enjoy working with women and children. I also dance professionally at the Aria–City Center in Las Vegas, working with some of the most talented men and women in the world.
What advice would you give to young woman starting in the modeling game?
Build your portfolio but watch out for the random “MWC” aka Men With Camera. All men with a nice camera are not professional photographers. Check his portfolio and credentials. Talk to other models that have worked with him. Your safety and image is very important!
What upcoming projects are you working on?
I’m beginning expanding my portfolio with more dance photography. It’s such a beautiful art! I’m also doing something I always said I wouldn’t do: music videos.
