Chad Ochocinco Gambles In His Undies….

I know it’s hot in Las Vegas, but really Chad? Really? Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver/twitter junkie/reality-tv star Chad Ochocinco was in Las Vegas finishing up taping a new show coming to Fx, called ‘The League’.  Apparently, it was so hot in Vegas that Chad decided to gamble in his undies and then tweet about it.

First Chad tweets, ‘Walking around MGM lobby in my gold toe socks and h&m briefs seeing who’s winning on these slot machines, people looking at me crazy WTF.’ A few hours later, ‘Back in my briefs and socks walking down Flamingo or as they say the Las Vegas strip, when it gets a lil cooler ill put on some clothes.’

Now in all fairness, I think this ‘stunt’ is related to the filming of this ‘League’ show and for that, I guess I would give him a pass.  I get that Chad wants to stay relevant after football, of which he is on the downside of his career.  But at some point, the constant seeking of attention becomes…..annoying.  This is expected of Paris Hilton(and even she’s been quiet lately), and Kim Kardashian(the NEW Paris Hilton), people who stay in the media through no known talent.  But Chad is quite the athlete and is still a professional athlete.  Thousands of people cheer for him every Sunday for four months out of the year. Yet, that is not enough for Chad.  The reality TV ventures he has embarked upon will not leave a lasting legacy. Ten years from now…no one will say, ‘Man, remember when Chad Johnson was on ‘Dancing with the Stars’, he was robbed!’

Now I understand that today’s athlete has to worry about their ‘brand’ as a whole, but making sure your ‘brand’ ON the field is in tact will ensure you can be successful without being ‘extra’ off of the field.  These ‘extra’ efforts have some, including teammates wondering about whether Chad is putting in his best effort to being the best during the season.  Training camp starts soon, and there is a lot on the line for the Bengals.  I hope Chad’s ‘extra’ effort shows up there as well or he could be back in his undies, unemployed.
