I figured Derek Fisher was just hanging out and talking with the Heat to attempt to drive up the price in LA.
The problem the Heat had in woooing him is that Fisher wants $5 million a year and the Heat don’t have $5 to give right now.
According to Yahoo Sports that means the Lakers offer of 2.5 million a year might be Fisher’s best bet:
Free-agent guard Derek Fisher(notes) spent some time considering an offer to join Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh with the Miami Heat, but Yahoo! Sports’ Marc J. Spears reports that Fisher is going to remain with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he’s spent all but three of his 13 seasons in the league.
Spears reports that Fisher got a $2.5 million offer from L.A. He had been wanting a two-year offer that would make him around what he got last year: $5 million annually.
Due to the Heat’s recent overstuffing of the salary, they would only be able to give Fisher the veteran’s minimum.
Fisher is already attached to a Championship team and has 5 rings so the urgency to go join the South Beach NWO is not that pressing to the point he will play for pennies on the dollars.
So Bron, Bosh and Wade will continue their search for the Buff Bagwells of the world to come play with them.
