Before Terry Crews portrayed likes of Damon in Friday After Next, Latrell in White Chicks, or Cheesburger Eddy in The Longest Yard he was actually a football player. People might not be aware Terry Crews was once in NFL. A mediocre NFL player but nevertheless a player. He was on an NFL roster as either a roster player or practice squad player as a LB during a 4 year career with 4 different teams during the early 90s. He amounted a total of 2 official tackles during that time.
Before you chuckle, thats two more than the rest of us. He got to live NFL dream. With that being said, obviously his football career was not going anywhere fast so he decided it was time move on to bigger and better things. He turned caricatures of beefcake athletes to into an art as Kelly L. Carter notes. Of course his career is more diversified than just the beefcake roles. Currently Terry has a total of 41 Film/TV credits according to the Internet Movie Database(IMDB). Thats not even including his highly successful and memorable viral Old Spice commercials. Its good to see someone going from having a failed football career to become by all accounts a successful black actor, and funny one at that. Current athletes who plan on going “hollywood” when career is over should keep his number handy. They can learn a thing or two. Happy Birthday Terry and please keep the laughs coming. Enjoy some of his best work. Should give you needed energy to get by today.
