Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick has finally released an official statement concerning the shooting of his co-defendant, Quanis Phillips, at the 30th birthday party June 25th.
“On June 25, 2010 I attended a birthday party held in my honor at The Guadalajara’s Restaurant in Virginia Beach, Virginia. After I left the event, I learned that a man was shot outside the restaurant. I want to assure everyone that I had nothing to do with that incident. I left the restaurant prior to it occurring and did not witness what happened.
“Following the incident, I reported it to the Philadelphia Eagles and to representatives of Commissioner Roger Goodell of the NFL. In addition, I cooperated with and answered any and all questions from Law Enforcement officials investigating this matter. My statements, from the beginning, explained that I was not there at the time of the shooting and had no knowledge of the events surrounding it. I have been completely truthful and fully cooperative from the very beginning and will continue to cooperate with Law Enforcement and the NFL as this investigation continues.”
It’s nice for Vick to clean up the timeline of his alibi for the public, but telling the public the truth is not what’s most important. Telling the truth to the police is what should’ve been his real focus. Maybe focusing on telling the truth from the beginning would’ve been the best policy. Vick has a bad habit of panicking when he’s in trouble and telling the first lie he can think of. He did it with Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank and he’s done it again.
My theory (and I repeat, MY THEORY) is that once Vick and his brother found out that Quanis Phillips was at the party, they told him to get out. According to the NY Post, Phillips took cake and smashed it in Michael Vick’s face. This is where the two brothers take two different approaches to the situation. Michael Vick doesn’t get upset, he has Phillips escorted out … kicking and screaming. Marcus, on the other hand, is very upset and agitated. Once Phillips is in the parking lot, still talking, is where I believe Marcus shoots Phillips.
I think that Vick’s lying to the police about exactly when he left the party is all in an effort to protect his brother. Really Mike, it’s time to protect YOURSELF and your future, which is on very thin, cracking ice.
