Former Buckeye Maurice Clarett Asks Judge Permission to Try Out for UFL

A few months ago we brought you the story of Maurice Clarett the former Ohio State Running Back who ran afoul of the law after a disastrous tenure in Columbus and failed attempt in the NFL.

Clarett was released from prison early and has re-enrolled at OSU. It appears he is trying to turn around his life. You would think his “football dreams” would be over, but Clarett is trying to throw one more Hail Mary.

He is petitioning the judge in his case to allow him to travel so he can try out with a UFL team. Here are the details:

Clarett pleaded guilty in 2006 to aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon and served 3½ years in a Toledo prison. He is attending classes at Ohio State while living in a detention facility in Columbus.

Tim Jackson, bailiff for Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge David Fais, said Monday that Clarett’s attorney had filed a motion asking for Clarett to be allowed to travel. A review was tentatively set up for later in the day.

TV station WSYX reported on its website Monday that Clarett wanted to try out for the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League.

It is a longshot, but I hope the judge grants Clarett request. Honestly even if he plays a down in the UFL or any sports league considering everything he has been through it would be one of the biggest comeback stories of all time.

Good Luck Maurice.
