The #1 goal for a boxer:
NOT TO GET KNOCKED OUT
When a boxer gets knocked down what does his corner yell at him?
“GET UP!!!!!!!”
Most boxers have been boxing since their youth and have been trained for years to stay off the ground. That is the main reason that I don’t believe any boxer could ever succeed in the UFC.
UFC guys have trained for years in striking, kicks, take downs, submissions and multiple forms of martial arts. Boxers are taught to hit and how not to get hit.
Granted James Toney (who looked like Damon Wayans in the “Great White Hype” when he entered the ring) is nowhere near his prime and it was obvious he was just doing this for a paycheck, but he had no business in the cage with Randy Couture.
I know that UFC does these things for ratings and attention, but if they want to break into the mainstream (they are very close) they need to stop with the sideshow acts and concentrate their promotional skills on their talented guys like Frankie Eager.
As for Toney who I don’t believe connected with one punch and was on the ground getting his brains beat in 15 seconds into the bout, I hope the check clears on Monday.
