You know what is always funny to me?
When an old veteran signs with an already old team, the casual fan who only knows the name blurts on the following:
THIS IS HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You will see a bunch of that now that Shaq has signed with the Celtics, but in reality it is no different that when the Celtics signed Michael Finley.
Shaq is a serviceable center at the end of his career, that you can throw in there for about 15-20 minutes a game to grab you a few boards and get you a couple of points.
But defensively he is a liablity and he slows down whatever team he is on.
Boston needed front court bodies because they just don’t know when Kendrick Perkins will come back and even if he does come back it is unlikely he would be fully healthy.
It came down to Shaq and Kwame Brown.
I think that says a lot about Shaq and a lot about how desperate the Celtics were. Here are the details:
Shaquille O’Neal has decided to join the Boston Celtics, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. He is expected to tell the team of his intentions Wednesday morning.
The length of the contract is not known, but O’Neal, who has been seeking a two-year deal, will play for the veteran’s minimum of $1.4 million annually.
I don’t think he hurts the Celtics, I just don’t think he helps put them over the top against the South Beach NWO.
Now word if Rasheed and his beard will be rejoining the team.
