I understand that Iverson is a big star and wants to be paid as such, but he needs to realize that he isn’t going to get four million dollars from any NBA team, so he needs to be very careful playing Poker with these Chinese organizations, when he doesn’t even have a pair of deuces in his hand.
Here are the latest details:
Iverson turned down a one year contract paying $4 million from the Foshan Dragons of the Chinese Basketball Association. The reason of course it was that the 4 million dollars was not enough.
Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports reported that team representatives told Iverson he is well liked and very popular in China opening the opportunity to make many, many extra dollars off the court in advertising and appearances.
Iverson remains one of the most popular NBA players in China. His jersey ranked eighth among the top sellers in the Asian country.
One thing I did hear about NBA players that go over to China is they make a killing in endorsements. That is the main reason why Stephon Marbury continues to play over there, because he is making more money off the court than on it.
You have to understand while we have grown up watching Allen Iverson and seeing him in a club or something isn’t a big deal (unless you are groupie) he would be considered like a Superhero in China. It would be like meeting Superman or getting tweeted by Pilar Sanders.
*Wait*
*Refocus Rob*
If Iverson is holding out hopes to get back in the NBA and using the Chinese teams are leverage, he is making a big mistake.
He needs to take that Chinese money, get a Slingbox and keep it moving.
