I am not sure what the proper adjective is to describe Gilbert Arenas (Shooter? Get your minds out of the gutter).
Quirky?
Unusual?
Unique?
He is different and different is good, because normal is boring. Seems like his heart is always in the right place even if he goes about it the wrong way.
His latest stunt was to fake an injury so a teammate could get some more time on the court. Here is what Gilbert had to say:
“I told [Young] I’d sacrifice playing tonight so he can get some time in because I know he’s kind of frustrated he’s not getting a chance to crack the [small forward] position, especially since we’re going three guards,” said a smiling Arenas. “So I told him I’ll go and fake an injury or say something’s wrong with me so you can start.”
The plan worked, for both Young and the Wizards. Young started, played 31 minutes and scored a team-high 24 points to lead the Wizards to a 107-92 win.
When asked how his knee is feeling, Arenas said “I’m fine,” The Washington Post reported.
The gesture was very nice, lying about an injury though even in preseason is not advisable.
Especially not advisable for someone who is on thin ice already.
The problem is that now any time Arenas says he is hurt people will questions right or wrong, if he is telling the truth.
I am not talking about just the media, but also the Wizards organization.
That is what I mean when I say his intentions are good, but his execution is poor.
He made a mistake bringing guns in the locker room and he is lucky to have gotten off as lightly as he did (FREE PLAX!!!).
Don’t make it any harder on yourself.
*UPDATE*
Arenas was fined and has apologized for faking the injury. Says he was just trying to help.
