I would say the NFL season hasn’t been the same without JaMarcus, but considering the quality of quarterback play, I have had much to make fun of.
Even though JaMarcus was my favorite, I have moved on.
JR says he can’t quite put his finger on why he isn’t in the league anymore and why he failed miserably as an NFL quarterback.
“I’m not sure,” Russell said. “I don’t know where it went wrong. But for the things that did go wrong, I take full blame for whatever was my fault and the things that did happen. Being drafted number one, there’s so much that they want you to do at the snap of a finger. It didn’t happen that way, which brings us to today.”
Since JaMarcus can’t figure it out, I will figure it out for him.
The first thing that went wrong was that Russell should have never been drafted #1. People looked too much at the physical and not enough at the mental aspect of his abilities as a QB.
Secondly the Raiders aren’t the most stable franchise for anyone to go to, especially someone who wasn’t ready to be the man.
Thirdly to be a quarterback in the NFL, you also have to be one of the hardest workers on the team. JaMarcus prefer to be sipping on that Purple Drank than in the film room.
Lastly, I have heard on good authority that Russell shut down many a Krispy Kreme in the Oakland area during his time there.
I could name probably thirty more reasons, but those are the main ones. Russell feels like he will get another chance in the league, Jeff George thought that that too, and a decade later, he is still looking for that call.
