Oscar Robertson Says Lebron James Better Than Michael Jordan?

Oscar Robertson career averages were 25.7 points, 9.5 assists and 7.5 rebounds.  Robertson once average a triple double for a season.  He is one of the greatest players of all time.  It wouldn’t matter the era Robertson was a “Baller”.

He knows more about basketball than I would ever know even if I was schooled by James Naismith.

With that being said when I heard on ESPN First Take that Robertson said that Lebron James is better than Michael Jordan here was my reaction:

Check out the quote from the Big O:

Oscar Robertson – “[Is] Barkley trying to say that LeBron isn’t as good as Michael Jordan? .. come on!”

Reporter – “What do you think?”

Oscar Robertson – “psh.. LeBron is in a class by himself”

In Lebron’s defense his career is just hitting the second chapter. His credentials are great for his first seven years in the league. He is only 25 years old and no one knows what will happen from here.

After Shaq left the building and Kobe and the Lakers stuggled for a few years people wrote him off, never write a great player off when the book isn’t finish being written. Kobe is now looking for a 3 peat.

For all we know Lebron will run multiple championships in a row or will end up like Karl Malone, the point is we just don’t know, so don’t speak in absolutes.

Jordan’s novel is done and he is seen by most as the greatest basketball player of all time. Lebron physically maybe superior to Michael Jordan, but athletic ability is just a component of what makes a champion.

Before Lebron can even be in the same breath as Michael Jordan, he going to need more jewelry than Roc-A-Fella chains.

Everyone should be patient and see how it plays out, before saying crazy statements like Lebron is better than Jordan.

Even the great Oscar Robertson should know better than that.

He's clearly implying Lebron is better than Jordan. He scoffs at Barkley claiming he isn't. Lebron can never be better than Jordan joining Wade and Bosh because he doesn't want to go through them. He doesn't have close to the drive Jordan did. Jordan didn't go join the Celtics and Pistons when they were beating him. Wades already accomplished more than Lebron.

    • trufan says:

That is a misguided analogy. Lebron's team was far better than both Wade and Bosh's. Dwyane Wade recruited James because the Miami Heat had room to sign both LBJ and Bosh. So although technically Lebron joined the Miami Heat,(because the Heat was the only team in that position), Wade and Bosh didn't want to have to go through Lebron.

  2. The Dude says:

Lol, what does Barkley know? He's a loser. He's never won a championship. He did the EXACT SAME THING WHEN HE JOINED THE ROCKETS. And still couldn't get it done. LeBron can potentially be better than Michael, but its comparing apples to oranges. Different game, if Jordan played in todays era, he would foul out in less than a quarter. Also, he would get fauled every single time he got the ball. Its a different game.

Here we go again ,first Jerry states , I quote "Kobe is better than magic " Now we got The Big O himself Ocar Robinson Talking about LeBron is better than M. J. (Michael Jordan) Come On What Is it ;the two Of you are starve for attention or did you grow up on another planet For goodness sake , be for real even Stvie Wonder Or Ray Charles can see that this is Nonsence. AS of yet there is no compairson between Lebron and M. J. .You are trying to compare a Player with potentials to a player with credentials,It goes without saying as to whos who in this matter, can I get a witness..Please think before you continue to declare that the unproven is better, greater or will become more accomplish than the already proven. As of today the main stat sheet read as this M J. how many rings, and Lebron has how many rings? A no brainer right . That how simple this matter is . Ps When did ' I am going to be better' ;surpass greatness. Oscar Lebron ain't there yet and he may not ever get there…….

      Amen Brother! Amen!

    • Nesz says:

I agree.. Lebron should prove himself first. He may have talent but he has to win that elusive championships or else he will just be like Charles B, Malone and Ewing….
He still has a long way to go even in comparison to Magic or Bird…

  4. keydo504 says:

The Big "O" said, LBJ is in a class of his own. What better way to describe him. at 25,MJ didn't have a ring or MVP awards. And he wasn't as popular as LBJ at 25…MJ rings came later, and so will LBJ…….He's being compared to MJ without a ring.Kobe had to get 5 rings to be in that comparison…..enought said!!!!!

    • calderstrake says:

Absolutely correct! Look at the age and accomplishments, not the seasons played.

    • [email protected] says:

@keydo504 You must be about two years old to say that MJ was not was as popular as Lebron at 25. I have news for you. At 25 MJ was and still is far more popular than Lebron will ever be. Why do you think people are stiil talking about MJ years after his retirement? Jordans shoes outsell Lebrons shoes 6 to 1.

  5. tru.nba.fan says:

anyone that compares Lebron to MJ is crazy. I will say that LBJ is a good player actually skill wise hes one of the best players in the nba right now. but it takes more than plain talent to become as great as MJ. LBJ just doesnt have that same drive. Who knows maybe it will come later in his career. BUT NOBODY WILL TOP MICHAEL JORDAN. that kinda player comes around once. Some will come close but none will pass him. If there was a bible for true basketball fans it would state ‘Thou shall have no basketball God before Michael Jordan’. Even LBJ knows this which is why he tries so hard to be like Mike

    • calderstrake says:

Wilt Chamberlain was a superior player by almost every single stat. How was MJ the greatest player of all time? Championship rings are awarded to a team, not a single player.

  6. nesz says:

The Big O has his opinion but for me Lebron still has a long way to go. He is still young and he will be judge through his accomplishments. He is overhype right now and that should change. He will be judge better after another 5 years. He may be a loser, a winner or just another media creation.

  15. Thanks for your posting. Another issue is that being a photographer will involve not only difficulties in recording award-winning photographs but in addition hardships in getting the best digital camera suited to your requirements and most especially issues in maintaining the grade of your camera. This can be very correct and obvious for those professional photographers that are in to capturing this nature’s engaging scenes – the mountains, the particular forests, the particular wild or perhaps the seas. Going to these exciting places undoubtedly requires a digicam that can surpass the wild’s hard settings.
