Steelers LB James Harrison: “I am Considering Retiring This Week”

Harrison is extremely upset about being fined $75,000 for his helmet to helmet hits against the Cleveland Browns last weekend.

Personally, I would have been more upset with the NFL after finding they were profiting off of his hit, but I digress.

Harrison wonders if he can play in the NFL if they are going to police the hits with suspensions, ejections and fines. Here is what Harrison had to say:

“I’m going to sit down and have a serious conversation with my coach tomorrow and see if I can actually play by NFL rules and still be effective. If not, I may have to give up playing football.” Harrison later commented, “I’m going to have to try and find a way that I may possibly get out of whatever agreement I agreed to with the Steelers.”

I highly doubt he would retire this week—I think that is just the emotion talking.  I get that Harrison is upset, but stop crying, you know you are going to play as long as those checks are being deposited.

Personally, I think the NFL will talk tough for a few weeks and then things will settle down. I think the most important thing the NFL needs to do is work on safer equipment.

I think there is a fine line in regards to hits like Harrison and Dunta Robinson and hits like Brandon Merriweather on Todd Heap.

The refs who already have a difficult job, now are going to have to make decisions on the fly with the whole world watching.

It is a hot button topic and I am very curious to see how it plays out this weekend.

I have lost respect for the NFL after that "mistake" photo. They care nothing about the safety of their players. This is evident by the fact that they were contemplating adding MORE games to the regular season, and that coaches pretty much dont even get as much as a slap on the wrist for re-admitting players into the game after concussed contact etc.

    What a joke.
