Either this is brilliant marketing or the bar will close by the playoffs, but either way you have to like a risk taker.
Whiskey Tango made the original offer of free booze for the first Heat loss but decided to up the ante after the Celtics laid the smackdown to the South Beach NWO:
Whiskey Tango Bar & Grill in Hollywood Florida, made good on its advertising pledge. It allowed patrons to drink for free on the night the Miami Heat lost to the Boston Celtics on the NBA 2010 season’s opening night. The owner has decided to make it a season-long policy. Is he crazy or does he know something we don’t?
Here’s what the bar owner posted on the establishment’s website after writing off $4,400 in bar tabs: “– Ya know….. when we first decided to do this, we had said we would pay everyone’s tab only the FIRST time the Miami Heat lose, but ya know what?? We’re so FIRED UP about the Miami Heat, that we’ve already decided to do this even bigger and better…. This is Miami, people, our team is hot…. We’re gonna keep this going for the long haul. So come watch EVERY game at Whiskey Tango… The Bar That Loves You Back!!!
If the Heat lose 20 games that is $88,000 in lost revenue.
I know what they are thinking, people will come to the bar secretly hoping for a Heat loss so they can get free shots, but if they win since they are already liquored up they will keep drinking. Plus it is a bar and grill, so they have other ways to make money besides alcohol, but they need people there to do that.
I think it is good risk to take, just hope nothing happens to Lebron or Wade because if it does Whiskey just won’t be the name, but what the owners will be drinking when they go bankrupt.
