I understand that coaches sometimes have to get after players, it is part of the job.
It is a tough business and you have to have thick skin to be a player in the NFL— but who is chastising Andy Reid for being the worst clock and late game manager in the history of the National Football League?
My theory is that Reid was taking out his frustrations on Jackson because he was really upset with himself.
Here are the details:
After the game, Jackson sat in front of his locker with his face buried his hands for about 20 minutes and had to be consoled by several teammates, including LeSean McCoy and Brent Celek.
Jackson and Vick also had what looked like an emotional discusssion, with Vick seemingly imparting some advice on the third-year wideout, although Jackson seemed lukewarm to the entire conversation.
As he walked away, Vick told Jackson, “C’mon, D-Jax, you’re my boy. I would never tell you nothin’ wrong.” Jackson didn’t respond. They later had a friendlier exchange after Vick came back from his press conference.
Multiple team sources told The News Journal that Jackson was chewed out by coach Andy Reid in front of the entire team after the game. Jackson, one source said, had irritated Reid by having a loose demeanor before the game and not taking pre-game drills seriously.
It is an emotional game, and Jackson has had a lot of highs and lows this season. I am willing to cut him some slack— but he has to be able to shake that off and move on.
It was a tough loss in Chicago, but the season isn’t lost. The Eagles have several meaningful games and they need DeSean Jackson to have his head on straight.
Reid needs to get control of himself as well— it is hard to yell at players when you are kicking FGs and not going for onside kicks when your team is desperately behind in the 4th quarter.
Hopefully Jackson will listen to Michael Vick, because I am sure he told him, it could be a much worse.
