We focus so much on the negative stories in sports, sometimes we forget many of these guys are doing great things to give back to the community.
For someone like Chris Johnson who sometimes gets stereotype just by his appearance. I think it is important to point out that he is a role model.
He has been a model player on and off the field and his “Running Back to School” program is something that should applauded. Here are the details:
Tennessee star running back Chris Johnson has amassed 721 rushing yards through the team’s first eight games, which is good news for local Metropolitan Nashville Public High Schools. This season, Johnson has teamed with POWERADE to participate in its “Running Back to Schools” program. For every rushing yard Johnson registers in 2010, POWERADE will donate $10 to Davidson County schools to help offset costs of the schools’ athletic programs, such as equipment, uniforms and facility upgrades. To date, Johnson has raised $7,210 heading into Tennessee’s next game on November 14 against Miami.
In addition, fans can help make a charitable donation of their own by following Johnson on Twitter ( http://twitter.com/ChrisJohnson28); a bonus contribution of $1 will be given by POWERADE for each of the first 5,000 tweets by Johnson’s followers that include #powerade.
I will definitely follow now and I expect you to follow as well. Good stuff.
