Our legal system is extremely flawed.
Homeland Security has time to shut down rap download sites and the FBI can dig into the Cam Newton scandal, but no one can seem to start the trial of the murderers of Sean Taylor.
The trial involving the men charged in the shooting death of former Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor has been postponed again until March 14.
Taylor died a few days after Thanksgiving in 2007 after suffering a gunshot wound to his leg while confronting intruders in his Miami home. Fort Myers, Fla., residents Eric Rivera, 20; Jason Scott Mitchell, 22; Charles K. Wardlow, 21; and Timmy Lee Brown, 19; face first-degree murder and armed burglary charges in connection with Taylor’s death.
“These kinds of cases – never mind a case with four or five defendants – they take years to go to trial,” said Terry Chavez, a public information officer for the Miami-Dade Office of the State Attorney.
I don’t buy that reasoning. It shouldn’t take more than three years to put these men on trial when you have one defendant who has confessed and a ton of evidence against the other defendants.
They are dragging their feet and that is disservice to the memory of Sean Taylor and his loved ones.
