Source: Dolphins to Stick With Tony Sparano after Wooing Harbaugh Fails
I am sure that Tony Sparano wanted to quit, but because he wanted the money he was owed if he was fired he just had to sit tight while the Dolphins ran after Jim Harbaugh like a Basketball Wife with an iron clad pre-nup runs after their husband when he is on his way to see his divorce lawyer.
The Dolphins were prepared to give Harbaugh more money than Bill Belichick, but similar to most men who run after their mistress while the wife is at home, the Dolphins eventually came crawling back to their house empty handed begging for their wife to take them back.
The Miami Dolphins will retain head coach Tony Sparano, a source told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen on Thursday night.
But Harbaugh and the Dolphins broke off talks Thursday, sources told The Associated Press.
The Dolphins were willing to make Harbaugh the highest-paid coach in the NFL, which would place his salary in the $7 million-to-$8 million range, sources said.
Ross resumed the meeting Thursday night with Harbaugh’s agent, David Dunn, in Southern California after the Dolphins owner traveled south to satisfy an unrelated business commitment following his meeting with Harbaugh, the sources said.
Ross hoped to persuade Harbaugh to take the job and travel to Miami on his private jet to introduce him as his new coach by Friday or this weekend, the sources added.
Classless by the Dolphins and Sparano who already had a shaky hold of the locker room will probably even lose more sway with them now.
Throw in the fact he will be a lame duck coach in 2011, maybe he should have just said screw the money and quit.
If I am him I am marching in the owner’s office tomorrow demanding an extension or to be fired, because his chances of succeeding next year in Miami are very poor.Powered by Sidelines
