Jordan Palmer was recently released by the Chicago Bears when he lost the backup QB job to Jimmy Clausen. Jay Cutler is not enthused about seeing Palmer so soon, as he has signed with the Bears’ week 1 opponent the Buffalo Bills.
According to Dan Wiederer of the Chicago tribune, Jay Cutler wasn’t wild about the fact that Palmer will likely be turning over 10 months of information about the Bears offense in the next 10 days. “Its not an ideal situation” Cutler said “Its not exactly what you’d want. He can give them a few things Im sure. If he does sign, he’ll be meeting with [Bills defensive coordinator Jim] Schwartz pretty much immediately.
This tactic of gaining a competitive advantage on an oppononet is not new to the NFL at all, but rarely does it happen at the QB position where there is so much detail that goes into the gameplan. Given Jordan Palmer’s repuation as a decent football mind, after his tutelage of Jacksonville’s Blake Bortles in the pre-draft process, I completely understand Jay Cutler’s slight concern.
