Urban Meyer to Eventually Succeed Jim Tressel at Ohio State?

I get the feeling people are trying to force the Sweatervest out of Columbus sooner rather than later.

I don’t know why considering the success he has had with the program. I still am trying to get over the horror of the John Cooper era, so in my mind Tressel can stay at OSU until he wearing high water pants like Joe Paterno in my opinion.

With the being said speculation about where Urban Meyer will land after his fake retirement is over has lead people to believe he will end up in the Horseshoe.

ESPN’s Bruce Feldman does nothing to put out those flames.

My hunch is he might be the guy whenever Jim Tressel decides to step down at Ohio State, given that he is an Ohio guy and it is a very big job. To me, OSU seems a little more viable than some other potential openings.

I don’t think it is a viable option because I don’t see Tressel leaving OSU for a very long time. Meyer in my mind will be back in coaching within the next two to four years. I don’t see Tressel leaving OSU unless something crazy happened like him choking his wife or something.

Even if he did leave I don’t know if Meyer is a credible option mainly because emotionally you don’t know if he will leave the program after a few years because he is “burnt” out.

Plus he doesn’t a rock a sweater-vest and that is a prerequisite for any Ohio State head coach for the next 100 years.

  1. Come on Bob…Urban Meyer isn't going to Ohio State ever…he quit Florida because he couldn't handle the mental grind anymore. Why would he go to a place where recruiting is even more difficult than where he just left? He had quick and easy access to recruit the best players in the country – he got stressed out from that. He's not going to take a more difficult proposition. You're wrong on this one.

    • Wow JP..you didn't read the whole article I said specifically I didn't think it was going to happen. I was quoting a ESPN report

JP… you don't know much about Urban Meyer do you? First, he is a true and true Ohio guy. If he wouldn't consider tOSU then why would he have included tOSU as one of the three schools in his opt-out clause at both Utah and Florida??

And if you want to talk about recruiting… last I checked tOSU has had more top 10 recruiting classes over the last 10 years than Florida. Not just an opinion, but a FACT. Look it up.

Urban is from Ohio and was on Earle Bruce's coaching staff at Ohio State. He has mentioned that coaching for Ohio State would be his dream job and he is taking time off to rest and primarily spend time with his kids. His son will be about 17 in 4 years. Tressel's contract run through 2015. Tressel has said numerous times that he will not be a JoePa type coach.

I believe that Urban is a very, very viable candidate, when the position becomes available, regardless of if Urban is still retired or in coaching. The other wildcard in this is how Coach Hazell does at Kent State because Coach Tressel would still be involved with the program upon retirement, and he loves Hazell as does Gene Smith. If Hazell takes them to a bowl game, it will be very close.
