Carmelo Anthony botched this thing right from the beginning. I don’t think he did it on purpose, but in this new age media it is harder to do things behind the scenes.
If Anthony could go back in time, I think he would do things differently.
I am not shocked that the entire process has stressed him out, I believe he honestly thought he would be with his new team and nice fat extension in hand by now.
He also had to deal with the tragedy of his sister passing away, so he has been through a lot in the last couple of months. He has played well lately and he credits getting his mind right in an interesting way.
On Jan. 9, the day trade rumors involving the New Jersey Nets hit a fever pitch, Anthony began an intensive 21-day fast, designed to cleanse his body and focus his mind. Anthony gave up all meat, fish, bread, sweets and soda, adhering to a modified version of “The Daniel Fast,” a Christian-based plan that combines diet with prayer. For those three weeks, Anthony drank protein shakes and ate only vegetables and fruit.
“You’ve got to lose some things to gain some things,” said Anthony, who hasn’t weighed himself since but knows his body composition has changed, as well as his mind-set. “During that whole time, it was just a lot of prayer with myself, taking some time out and getting some clarity with myself, my career with my life, and it really helped me. I started seeing things a lot more clear from every aspect of my life.”
That is a beautiful thing and I was just about to give him a multiple compliments on getting his head together, but in typical egomaniac athlete fashion he then had to say this.
“It takes a strong-willed person, a strong-minded person to go out there and deal with the stuff I deal with and still go out and work every day and perform on a nightly basis,” Anthony said.
“I take my hat off to myself for dealing with all the stuff that’s going on and still be able to play at the highest level I can play at. I don’t really think the average person can walk in my shoes.”
When I read these last quotes this is exactly what I looked like.
You take your hat off to yourself? Seriously? Trust me Melo a lot of people can walk in your shoes, your life by comparisons to most people isn’t that hard.
Obviously the cleansing had an affect on his brain as well.
