Kirk Herbstreit Moving to Nashville to Avoid Ohio State Fans

If Herbstreit was single living in a condo, I would tell him to man up, but he is married with kids, so I can understand him wanting to get out of a hostile work environment.

Ohio State fans are passionate, like many fan bases, but they have to understand even though Herbstreit is a former Buckeye it is his job to be objective and sometimes that means speaking negatively on the Buckeyes.

As an alum I have to do the same thing, difference is I don’t live in Columbus, so no one is going to bother me.  Here is what Herbie has to say.

“Nobody loves Ohio State more than me,” said Herbstreit, a former Buckeyes quarterback. “I still have a picture of Woody Hayes and my dad (Jim, a former OSU player) in my office, and nobody will do more than I do for the university behind the scenes. But I’ve got a job to do, and I’m going to continue to be fair and objective. To continue to have to defend myself and my family in regards to my love and devotion to Ohio State is unfair.”

“From a sports perspective, this is rough,” he said. “I love Ohio State. Love the Blue Jackets. Love the Reds. Those are my hobbies. I don’t like moving. I love living here. I don’t want to leave. But I just can’t do this anymore. I really can’t keep going like this.

“Eighty to ninety percent of the Ohio State fans are great. It’s the vocal minority that make it rough. They probably represent only 5 to 10 percent of the fan base, but they are relentless.

I don’t agree with everything Herbstreit says not just about OSU or college football in general, but that is ok, it is his job to give his opinions and I never felt his opinions are bias.

Would you prefer him to be Lou Holtz or Dick Vitale?  Who are so bias you can’t take them seriously?

Remember being a fan doesn’t mean you have to be an ass.

  • JFS, Once a word becomes popular in a new language setting, it will take on a life of its own determined by the new speakers. Well, yeah. That’s sort of a given. My point was that I believe the Chinese sort of altered the word ?á to make it overlap with the English word “cool” while still retaining some of its original nuances. That makes it different from most loanwords. Compare it to É3·c or something.
