Roger Goodell may be the commissioner of the National Football League, but he is still an employee.
He works for the 32 owners, so no matter how much power he has, he is still in their pockets. The NFL players are already pissed off, so there was no need to insult their intelligence with this weak attempt of a divide and conquer letter.

Goodell is trying to plant seeds of doubt in the players— but it will only make them fight harder. There is a perception that NFL players are dumb and while I am sure some are, the majority of them are very bright.
Kindergarten methods like this only serve to make the divide between the players and owners wider—and it sure isn’t bringing them closer to the negotiating table.

So much criticism was thrown at former commissioner Paul Tagliabue's way, but he never initiated a work stoppage. He was successful in keep the boat afloat set in motion by Pete Roselle. Goodell is losing credibility with each passing day. It is becoming more and more apparent that the players do not like him very much and are losing more respect for him. I don't believe the players have to give back so much to the owners. These money-hungry owners extort city after city and state after state to fund their overpriced stadiums. I think Goodell's tenure will be stained forever if he stops being a mouthpiece for the owners and convince all parties involved to get a favorable deal for both sides.
