It’s getting hard to keep track of all the different feuds the Los Angeles Lakers have going on right now. Since Thursday night’s dust-up at Staples Center between the Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks that included two on-court shoving matches and a fan attempting to rush the court, Matt Barnes and Jason Terry have started a running trash-talk dialogue that feels like the run-up to a heavyweight fight. Even Kobe Bryant has gotten in on the act, taking some shots at Utah Jazz center Kyrylo Fesenko for taking shots at him (no, really).
Sunday, it was Andrew Bynum’s turn to fire a shot across the bow, taking aim at Amare Stoudemire of the New York Knicks. Stoudemire in an interview on Hot97 called Pau Gasol “soft”. (H/T The Lakers Nation)
“He’s still soft, you know what I mean”, Amar’e said with a laugh. “He’s a good player, but he has help down there with Lamar Odom, (and) Andrew Bynum. Those 7-footers down there, so he has a supporting cast.” Stoudemire said.
Bynum responded and wondered aloud via Twitter if maybe Stoudemire should take a look in the mirror.
For what it’s worth, don’t expect much to come of this. The Knicks and Lakers don’t play again during the regular season and right now New York should be more concerned about holding onto the seventh seed in the East. But if nothing else, the Lakers seem willing to play the villain which should make the playoffs even more intriguing. Now if only Vince McMahon could promote it.
