Time is an undefeated opponent. There have been instances when athletes have held time off, but eventually the inevitable occurs and time prevails. Hell, time is undefeated against everyone not just athletes. So why can’t it be that time may be taking a toll on the phenomenon known as Tiger Woods.
Time doesn’t consist of just Tiger getting old or his skill diminishing. It includes the next Tiger Woods busting onto the scene and his opponents getting better. Before Tiger there was Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, and Byron Nelson. There will always be another dubbed “next”. Could it be the stranglehold Tiger took of the PGA inspired his fellow golfers to work on their game? That probably wouldn’t be enough to dethrone the great Tiger Woods in most observers’ eyes. Surely there has to be something else.
There’s a hitch in his swing. He misses his coaches Butch Harmon and Hank Haney. It’s even been said that Tiger needs to return to his philandering ways in order to become “the Tiger Woods”. Sure it was meant to be a joke, but how many of you thought “maybe he does.” Never has it been said that maybe just maybe, time has caught up with Tiger. I guess that would be too simple.
