There is a fine line between bravado and foolishness and “Sugar” Shane Mosley is perilously close to crossing it. The former world champion is set to fight Manny Pacquiao on May 7th in Las Vegas and has no doubts in his mind how things will go, according to Lance Pugmire of the L.A. Times.
Yes, he said, he believes he’ll defeat the world’s top pound-for-pound fighter, Manny Pacquiao, May 7 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and he even pronounced, “What concerns me is how nothing concerns me about this.”
Mosley’s camp is taking a more measured view of the fight, with good reason. Shane’s last two fights were a unanimous decision loss to Floyd Mayweather and an uninspiring draw against Sergio Mora. The biggest challenge will be to convince Mosley that he’s not the man he used to be and would be wise not to try and go toe-to-toe with the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter.
Whatever happens in the ring, it’s already shaping up as a win for Bob Arum, who tells reporters that the fight is sold out. Considering this fight is just a consolation prize for the Mayweather-Pacquiao bout we’ve all been waiting for, a sellout could be nothing more than a concession that this will be as close as we get.
