Tiger Woods Video Game Sets Sales Record

Apparently it’s okay to like Tiger Woods again. If the swell of Tiger tweets on your Twitter timeline Sunday didn’t confirm it, then this probably will. The latest edition of his EA Sports video game set a franchise record for sales in one week.

The golf simulation game, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters, sold about 225,000 copies in its first week of release, topping the previous franchise record holder, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08.

The big addition to this year’s game in the inclusion of the Augusta National Golf Course where The Masters is played every year, which undoubtedly that had something to do with the increase in popularity. But after last year’s game tanked with the endless stream of Tiger infidelity stories, just adding a new course to a game isn’t enough to send sales through the roof.

So while it may not be something many people want to talk about out loud, Tiger is becoming fashionable again. America may not have forgiven everything, but we’re always suckers for a comeback story and Sunday’s run at Augusta might have been the beginning of something. Or not.

Either way, EA Sports is laughing all the way to the bank.

  1. The tried and true way to get over any scandal is to win. Period. It doesn't matter who you are or what you did, if you come back and win (or are on your way) people will get behind you. Ask Michael Vick, Tiger, Ray Lewis, Ben Roethlisberger…the list is endless.

  2. Only in American could a black athlete cheating on his wife with multiple women be considered a scandal when it has been done for years and not much fuss was made when the white folks were doing it.

Wonder why many folks have moved on.
