Serena Williams Cries Emotional Three Set Win

by BSO Staff | Posted on Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

Serena Williams made a comeback with nothing less than a big bang in Wimbledon on Tuesday. Williams defeated Aravane Rezai of France 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, in an emotional  three set match.

This marked Williams major return playing for the first time in 11 months.

“I never dreamed that I’d be here. And to win … It was a really big win for me,” said Williams.

Since her last win in Wimbledon last July, she battled two surgeries on her foot and a blood clot in her lung.

Williams showed signs being in great shape during the match, but with a fierce opponent she was breathing noticeably hard due to the blood clot she faced earlier this year.

“It’s been so hard and it’s just been a disaster year, but I’ve been praying and I have my family and I love tennis,” Williams said. “To be able to come back at Wimbledon is pretty awesome. I didn’t expect to play and I didn’t expect to even do anything, so I’m just excited. I never cry with joy at anything.”
