The first time I heard about Twitter was because of Shaq, so it makes sense that he is still using it to keep his pockets full. It appears Shaq had been planning his retirement for awhile.
No one, not even the Celtics knew his master plan, they should have talked to Hoopz, since she is the only one in the loop these days.
Instead of a tearful press conference he figured out a way to get paid.
The video sharing site TOUT launched just a month ago, but news of O’Neal’s retirement led to 500,000 page views in the first three hours. It might even join the everyday lexicon; O’Neal tweeted that he needed a new nickname and to “tout” him back with suggestions.
O’Neal didn’t just find the site and arbitrarily use its service in order to convey his retirement. He found out about the site last month, alerted his agent Perry Rogers, who then contacted the CEO Michael Downing. The deal was that O’Neal would announce his retirement on Tout.com for a seat on the company’s advisory board as well as a small undisclosed stake in the company.
O’Neal would later say, “Once a businessman, always a businessman. I am the emperor of the social media network.” Can’t argue with that; he’s right, if also typically boisterous.
Once a hustler, always a hustler.
Shaq is playing chess, while others are playing Checkers.
